Of Human Bondage .............?

I am reading Of Human Bondage by Maugham and enjoying it. I have read a huge amount of classics in my time, but I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for a novel similar in theme/structure/size as this one.

I love the turn-of-the-century, coming-of-age, short-chaptered masterpieces...so best answer points go to the person who gives me a suggestion I HAVE NOT already read!

Praise the Lord!

    How about;

    "The Go-between" L.P. Hartley

    "The Deptford Trllogy" Robertson Davies or even

    "Cakes & Ale" W. Somerset Maugham

    If you've read all these I would reccommend "Another Self" by James Lees-Milne. This is not a novel (although I think the truth may have been embroidered in places) nor quite turn-of-the century and it is rather irritatingly snobbish. However it is fairly short, very amusing, well written & definitely a good read.
