Which is harder to clean up termites or mold?

I have two houses I am considering buying. One has "a bad termite report" (whatever that means) the other has a lot of mold on one outer wall of the bedroom. Which would be worse?

Termites can completely destroy the strength of the structure. You can always take care of the source of the mold (especially if it's just one wall) and clean it up or knock it down and rebuild it.

The house with the termites should probably be plowed over before it falls over.

My recommendation? KEEP LOOKING for a house without mold or termites!

Boy have I been there. You love the house and then after the inspection you get the real picture. Immediately tick the one with the "bad" termite report off your list. Termites destroy structures and foundations. Bad, bad, bad. The mold needs to be checked out further. Did the inspection check for mold inside of the wall or in between? Before you make a decision for or against it see how far the mold damage really goes. If it is just as you said on the "one outer wall" that can easily be dealt with. Please, please make sure you get someone to really check out the extent of the mold damage. Start looking at other properties until you get a final answer on the mold. Good luck!!! It took me a lot longer to find my dream home than I ever imagined!!!! Take your time and do it right!! It'll save you a lot of money in the end!!

Cleaning up the mold using a bleach solution on the outside of a wall would be easier. You better hope, however that the mold hasn't grown inside the wall as well which it likely has. Then, cleaning it up will be a major problem requiring the removal of the dry wall.

Cleaning up after a long-term infection of termites can be a major ordeal that can be very expensive if you have to hire someone to do it. For example, the building sill might be affected. Believe me, this is bad.

All in all, both mold and termite correction can be costly but the mold cleanup is usually easier.

Well, mold is more asily controlled than termites. Our house have lots of termites and I think It will fall apart soon...poor me...no more home soon!!!They ate my expensive medical books also.

Molds are removed by constantly cleaning with a diluted hydrochloric acid and scrubbing the wall, it might not be completely removed but when repeated success rate is high...Then apply lysol disinfectent after each cleaning.Maybe your wall is having moisture from the soil or something, better control the roots rather than the fruit....hope I've helped...

Both are a problem. But you can get a person to come and spray those nasty termites away, before they do serious damage. The mold is a serious problem but also can be clean.Using full strength bleach and a lot of the other mold killer out there, this also can be clean away.

But you should check into the problem from professtionals before buying.Look on the web and see if there are ways to help with both.Which there are.

Well mold is very hard to get rid of....and if there is any site of it you will not be able to sell the house. It causes so many health problems.

Termites how bad are they? They just eat til nothing is left. You will literally have saw dust wherever they have been. So,now take your pick!If theres not too much termite damage you may be able to get someone out there to control it before it gets too bad.Because i say getting rid of mold will be a lot more expensive.

Termites could be worse since they eat the wood away. Strature damage could be a big factor costing alot to repair and to get rid of them. The mold could be from moisture and also have water damage. To get rid of mold mix equal parts of ammonia, vinger and water. That kills mold and destroys the chance of coming back.Find the source of moisture and see how to repair it.Check to see if wood is rotted and have replaced.Good luck

Bad termite report means they have been eating the framing and the house is subject to collapse .

Tear out all the walls and rebuild .

Mold is toxic and can kill you but I have heard that tenting the structure and using an ozone generator will kill it .

Let me know if that does work .

termite- they're living and eating away at your house.

the mold takes years to do damage even though you've probably had many years of damage from it I recommend the termite infestation.

I agree with those who say dont buy either one.

Both are bad news especialy when you follow the damage and it could cost more than the house is worth.

Of course you could offer land value and knock the house down and rebuild

Source(s): have bought a few houses and know the pitfalls
