Cingular/AT&T- "Emergency Only"???
My cell phone will not let me make calls. It gives me a message that says "emergency only" and just goes back to the main screen. I tried turning it off, taking out an re-inserting the SIM card, and turning it back on, but that didn't work. I'm in full signal. Any other suggestions BEFORE I call customer service?

Yes I've seen this happen before.... pull out the Sim card and wipe it off, clean it...make sure it's not dirty. It is deffinitly your SIM card. Usually that is all you have to do if that doesn't work you have to get a new sim card. Also don't forget to save everything to your phone that way when you put in the new card you don't lose your stored numbers. good luck I hope I was help-full

Kinda late on this... I don't have an emergency fund. I have a career with a salary. I also have a house and a human family and emergencies have come up with both of those. Every time I have tried adding money to one of my savings accounts for the dog - some crazy bill or family issue comes up where the money is needed. I know my vet won't take a payment plan - I have asked in regards to a non-life threatening surgery. I would like to think if it was a life or death situation the hospital/vet I take him to wouldn't turn me away - I have heard of facilities doing this though and that makes me absolutely sick. No one should assume that an owner will be rushing their animal in with a $1,000 in their pocket. But, I have also said - if my dog was in a desperate situation, I would take desperate measures. If I had to take a second mortgage out on my home, I would. I will beg family members, do whatever I have to do.

I would turn the phone off, travel about 10 -20 miles, turn it back on and attempt to make a call. Either the tower you're on is bad, you're account has been suspended or there's a problem with your phone. Either way, if you DO call customer care, be sure to be on a different phone, they can't troubleshoot if you're on the device in question... Often even in "SOS Only" or "Emergency Calls Only" mode, you'll show full signal strength (even if there isn't)

I had over 40.00 on my card, just added 25.00 2 weeks ago. NOW I get an emergency only messaged.

that could mean that your service is suspended or cancelled... i believe that when it only gives you that option it means that you dont have service anymore. if you make a call and it directs you to the customer service that usually means that your account was suspended for non payment... you have to call customer service no way around it
sorry

Did you pay your bill? If you did your phone may just not be any good anymore.....I had Cingular/AT&T or whatever in the hell their name is, and I ALWAYS had problems with my phone! I would suggest going to Altell!
