What type of bottle do you recommend?
I want ones that will help prevent extra air. I have heard the drop in plastic liners are great for this, but I plan to be doing a lot of bottle feeding because I will be a single mother, and I hear they get expensive in these cases. Any recommendations, this is my first and I want to do what is best. I have read consumer reports and such, but they just say that you have to make the decision, not what is better. Has anyone used the nipples or other systems that are supposed to prevent extra air?
Thank you for any advice you can give me.
Any advice on a breast pump for heavy use, would be great too.

The drop in liners are wonderful for removing extra air, and they are all my daughter will use. And honestly from my experience, next to the breast they are the best... hehehe sorry I like to say that. I have also heard really good things about the Dr. Browns bottles too. I know you can get those are target and walmart, don't know where else though. The drop in's aren't that bad as far as price goes, I mean you can get a package of 100 liners for like 5 or 6 dollars. As far as breast pumps go, I have an Ameda electric double pump and I LOVE IT. It is a wonderful pump. I don't know what type of medical insurance you have, but if you are on MA they will usually cover breast pumps or at least a good portion of them, if your not I would still definitely call your insurance to find out if they will. I know that's how I got my breast pump. I hope that I have helped. Good luck, there are all sorts of big decisions to make, huh!

Ive just had my first baby, so im no expert, but i've been using avent bottles and they're really good. They are a little pricey, but i think they're worth it, and bubs gonna have them for quite some time anyway. Avent are supposed to be anti colic, but as i said, ive never used anything else, but i find them great. Its all such a learning curve, isnt it! Best of luck!

Well with the bottles, your baby will tell you which one he likes best. So buy individual ones and try a few. Dr.Brown have a straw in them that separates liquid from the air. Playtex ventair have a bottom vent that lets the air in, so baby doesnt have to suck as hard.. Avent has a special nipple with a skirt which serves the same purpose as the ventair. Good luck!

I spent TONS of money trying different bottles, my son was very colicy and the doctor recommended these:
DR. BROWN BOTTLES
they worked wonders! We had gone through all the vent-air and Gerber ones and even the bag ones and still very colicy. Three days after I started with the Dr. Brown Bottles he was perfectly fine! I plan on using them for my second child due in Mar 2008.
For newborn make sure you use #1 nipple though!

I used Avent, but it was not working well, so I got some playtex bottles with the dropins. The money is tight for me, but I just clean out the liners and use them 3 times before I get a new one and I buy the store brand.

I use Dr. Brown bottles with my daughter. Since I've switched, she's done so much better with not getting as much air while she's eating, and even doesn't need burped quite as often. If I have to use a bottle with my next baby I am definitely going to use those. Good luck!

Try the Dr. Brown's bottles. (You can find them at Wal-mart of Target.) They are made especially for less bubble. And about a pump, try and find a hospital that rents them. If you will be using it often, you'll need a good one and then you won't have to spend as much money buying a hospital-grade pump!

My baby had bad wind so I changed to AVENT bottles (anti colic) and its been good since.
not sure where you are but im in Australia and they are a bit on the pricey side but they are worth it you can get a twin pack of 260ml bottles for about $27 and as your baby gets older you can buy the faster flowing teats, you get two for about $7.50.
Dont bother buying the 125ml bottles as they dont last that long before you need to buy the bigger ones.

I also use Avent and found them great. I have not had any problems with colic and they are actually proven to reduce colic.
