I need help to control moles in my yard?
I have reoccuring problems with moles in my lawn. I have tried almost every over the counter product, including a trap that didn't work at all. The most effective solution to date has been a powdered product that you spinkle over the lawn, but it only last about three weeks.
Does anyone have a longer term solution?

If you have a lot of moles, you probably have an oversupply of grubs and bugs.

Elimination the mole's food source...grubs...should do the trick for the long term. Spread a quality grub control on your lawn. "The idea is to kill the grubs to make your yard less like a mole fast food drive through."

Was that powdered you put on your lawn a product for grub control? If it was... it takes some time to work...but it IS the solution for long-term control.
In the meantime, short term solutions may help. some people pour cat litter or human hair clippings into molehills & refill them until signs of the mole have disappeared.

There are a whole range of deterrents people put down the mole run such as: bits of Juicy Fruit chewing gum, Garlic, Chilli powder, & Mothballs. I like the idea that the whirlygigs's thumping may be able to chase them away.
Many articles say using Castor oil is effective. Mix up a spray of 3 parts castor oil to 1 part dish soap; use 4 tablespoons of this concoction in a gallon of water, and soak the tunnels and the entrances.
Good luck! Hope this helps.

Grub-ex.. apply early spring, mid summer and early fall. It kills the mole's food, so they don't forage in your yard.
For a less chemical solution, Look into nematodes that affect grubs.. there are those that attack Japanese beetle grubs (milky spore) and another that attacks June Bug grubs (not sure of it's name). This will help.
Look into choker loop mole traps. in some soils, the spike types are useless. Nash makes a great choker loop mole trap. I've used it myself.
Moles are opportunity hunters.. they go where the grubs and bugs are.. eliminate these and the moles can't hunt.. they go away.
