Well, Do u have a strong background in drawing? If so than 2-d is great. That way u can design and make the 2-dimensional shapes look 3-d.

If your strengths are in building and constructing, be it sculpture, ceramics, or crafts, than u should be in 3-d. I think u should evaluate your portfolio of works you've done so far. Through grades and pieces u done that have been fun for u and have also challenged u. Also have given u the best grades. Just b/c u major in one and like the other doesn't mean u can't still be proficient in both. I would talk with my teachers and ask them also where your strengths are so far. My advance is to really pick the one u can see yourself doing in the next 5 years and go with it. You know in your heart what u love the most. Now all u need is validation.

    good luck

2d could only improve any 3d you might do.

Once you get into advanced classes you should be able to combine them (alternative drawing classes are great for that).

If you like the tangible qualities of 3d try printmaking - it gives you a chance to really manipulate materials & your end result is still on paper, or canvas, or whatever material you choose.

If you want to make any $$, though, graphic art is where it's at...even if you teach.
