Yes, another green dot question......?

Ok so I DO know what the green dot means! But what I don't understand is why they are doing it this season. Havent helmets with microphones and an ear piece been in the league for years, why all of sudden are they marking on the helmet?

They are doing it this season because last year the Falcons had Michael Vick and Matt Schaub (both QB) in the game at the same time. When that happend was they both could hear the coaches. The NFL only wanted 1 person to hear so they created the dot system that if 2 green dots are on the field at 1 time it is a penalty. If a team wanted to run a play with 2 QB's on the field one of them must have a different helmet

    hope this helps

Apparently, someone believes that any QB who also holds on field goal attempts has an unfair advantage because of the communication equipment inside his helmet. Having this equipment means they could receive instructions for a fake field goal while preparing for the attempt, and make the necessary adjustments.

its a new rule this year

The league is going to require any QB who also holds for field goals to use a secondary helmet each time they go out to hold. That means, if the QB who is on the field running the offense has to hold, he will have to come off the field, switch helmets, and go back in. Even if time is winding down, he'll need to rush over, exchange helmets, and get back on the field before time runs out, OR he'll have to call a timeout if his team still has any.

To prevent teams from substituting more electronic helmets on the field. It keeps the game play fair.
