galvanized elastomeric coatings?

I'm looking to find the name and maker of a good quality galvanized elastomeric coating that will bond with rusty metal and be able to cover over and fill holes that have rusted into the metal.

I would like to find one that carries a warranty.

You make booby-traps for a living, right? … I knew it!

Since there is no such thing as a “Galvanized elastomeric coating” I must assume you are referring to an elastomeric coating that may be applied to a galvanized substrate such as metal roofing materials. Galvanized metals fall into a category of substrates that are hard to paint, but it can be done with careful preparation, the right selection of products and proper application techniques.

You would want to begin by cleaning off loose rust and scale either mechanically, chemically or both. Any panels with significant damage should be replaced in their entirety. The metal should be etched with an etching cleaner such as muratic acid, however, muratic acid is dangerous to work with so I suggest Top Secret’s TS-695 Etching Cleaner, which is phosphoric acid based making it a whole lot easier to use. Additionally, it can be considered fertilizer in the flowerbed so it is a much better choice than muratic acid which is sulfuric acid. Once the loose scale has been removed, repairs completed and the metal cleaned with the etching cleaner you are ready to move forward with your product selection.

Top secret Coatings has a good water-based DTM (Direct To Metal) enamel that is excellent in this application. It is TS-300 DTM, which is a VOC compliant, acrylic, two-coat system. It can be applied by conventional or airless spray. It is a new generation product that utilizes interlinking technology. In other words it has been designed so that the first coat interlocks with the second coat to completely seal out moisture and contaminates. It is excellent in this application as well as in infrastructure in harsh marine applications. I suggest this product as your best choice for recoating galvanized metal roofing materials.

Good news on the subject of warranties; Top Secret’s guaranty is simple and straight forward. It is “satisfaction guaranteed” so you can’t miss with it. TS-300 DTM is available at select dealers and on their online store. Good luck!
