What would be the immediate effects if Ford Motor Company sells Volvo Car Corporation?
Specifically if it's sold to an investment firm like One Equity Partners, LLC or to a car maker such as BMW.
Basically my concern is buying a Volvo now, and then the new owners making a mess of a good product. Ford left Volvo alone, and that's what kept it's reputation the way it is. According to different financial news Ford is also considering selling Volvo and there are at least 3 groups interested (BMW, a Swedish group, and One Equity Partners, LLC). Paraphrasing, I just don't want to buy gold if the analysts can't get a clear indication as to what the market is going to do.

Depending on the company and the deal made, there might be broad changes made to Volvo, such as firing employees from the laborers to the corporate level, different marketing directions, maybe even "slash and burn" techniques that could eventually run the company into the ground. On the other hand, there might be improvements made in product safety and technology (though Volvo is already considered a leader in safety), new models, opening up to more foreign trade and/ or outsourcing the brand to a place like China. Drastic changes could hurt or help our economy in the US. As far as I know, Ford has no such plans of selling Volvo, though they are trying to get rid of Land Rover and Jaguar, and when that happens there will be no more Premier Auto Group (PAG for short).

Chrysler just got sold to an investment firm. Just observe Chrysler and you'll see. In the short term, there are lots of financial effects, but no product changes that you can readily see at the dealer. I'm not sure what you were interested in.
After a while, there will be other changes, I'm sure, because either the new owners have a different vision, or just to create an illusion of new leadership.
