Hi
I work in the private health insurance industry and unfortunately the 12 month waiting periods can not be waived. The reason behind this is to stop people buying health insurance 6 months before they have a baby, going to a private hospital, then when the baby is born dropping the cover. This would then cost the health fund more then the policy was worth (they would not be even close to breaking even) if health funds allowed this they would all go broke!!
We get asked this question all the time and unfortunately there is not much you can do :( and although a 12 month waiting period sounds long it basically only means that you must wait 12 months before giving birth NOT become pregnant sooo if you get cover then try for a baby 4/5 months after getting cover you can be treated in a private hospital under your insurance once the due date is 12 months AFTER purchasing the policy.

In Australia all the health funds have 12 month waiting periods on anything baby related.
I had my baby in Westmead Public Hospital in Sydney & I cannot believe how helpful everyone was. All of our midwives were fantasic & knew their stuff.

Just thought Id let you know, If you were American, In Australia you can go to hospital and deliver a baby completly free. You just have to share a room with 2 or 4 people, If you were to go private you would get your own room and telephone.

Not HBF. They have a 12 month waiting but once your pregnant they are fantastic!!
Added: ok, so someone else says yes to HBF, hmm, not a year ago when I was joining up, they may have changed, may as well ask. Like I said they are really good.

there is absolutely none!
obstetrics in every one is 12 month waiting period(they try to squeeze as much money out of you as possible) even if it has ads to say they wave some waiting periods it's never obstetrics.
