Do you have a Black Lab Mix..or Large dog? What do you feed it and how much?
I have a 6month old Black Lab Mix, that is in the hospital right now......we really don't know what made him so sick. His sister died very quickly last Sat. within a few days. I took him to the vet. as soon as he started showing the same signs. If he pulls through this I am never buying another Wal Mart brand or O'l Roy or Alpo again. I just have a gut feeling that is where the problem was, Doc. doesn't know for sure because I can't afford hundred dollars for lab work. But she has him on IV and other treatments which has stopped his vomiting and diahrea. I use to give him a can and a half of dog food in the morning and then Purinia dry food for the day and some kind of treat in the evening......Please tell me what and how much food do you give your Large Pet. I am going shopping as soon as I know he can come home. Probably Friday.....Thank You for your help. And by the way he is an outside dog if that makes any difference.

I have a pure bred Black Lab and we feed him Iam's Large Breed Formula. He gets a cup in the morning and a cup in the evening. This has helped him maintain his weight and he also is processing more of his food as well since he is not over eating any longer. Also make sure that your dog always has fresh water. Small treats once a night aren't bad for your dog as long as you are making him "earn" them, Labs (and most other dogs) also love fruits and vegetables and they are actually very good for them but not in any excess. Try giving him the watermelon rind (yes i know this sounds disgusting but actually most of the nutrients are in the rind and it serves and a nice chew toy that is easily digestible as well). If you have problems with dry skin like my Lab has, try giving him a raw egg with his morning meal (yes i know that this also sounds gross but my vet actually recommended this as a home remedy). I hope that your boy gets better and you have a long enjoyable life with him.

There should be feeding guidelines on the back of the bag. Yes, Ol' Roy and Alpo are bottom of the barrel dog food.
Innova EVO
Merrick
Nature's Variety Instinct
Wellness Super5Mix
Wellness CORE
Remember the better quality food you feed the less food the dog will consume. Look for foods without any filler such as corn and products without by-products.
Wellness Core 26 lb. Bag $47.29
Deboned Turkey, Deboned Chicken, Chicken Meal, Whitefish Meal
Pro Plan Selects 17.5 lb. Bag $24.99
Turkey, brewers rice, pearled barley, chicken meal
Iams 40 lb. Bag $29.49
Chicken, Corn Meal, Ground Whole Grain Sorghum, Chicken By-Product Meal

I feed all of my dogs Innova, there are 3 Pit Bulls, a Rottweiler, a Doberman and a Pit Bull X Rottweiler cross.
Judging by the average weight of a lab, he should probably be eating 1 cup twice a day, but since he is only 6 months old you should feed him 2 cups in the morning and 2 cups in the afternoon. Don't worry if he doesn't finish it right away as he will later on.
I feed my dogs Innova and they haven't had any problems with vomiting or anything of the like.. I would highly reccommend it if you can afford it.
Some other good brands are Wellness, Canidae, Fromm, Artemis, Eagle Pack, Natural Balance, EVO, Orijen or GO Natural. Good luck with your dog

Hey, well, I have 3 labs/ mixes. And first I am very sorry to hear of your loss and that your other dog is so sick. I hope he gets better.
I feed all of mine pedigree. (The yellow bag with blue on it) I don't feed them the large breed stuff cause, well, I just don't
I feed them 2x a day, 2 cups each in the am and 2 cups each at night. I used to let them graze but one of them has gotten so fat that he's on a diet!!
Anyway, I am sure a lot of people will say do the natural diet and the pedigree is not a good food, and I am sure it's not the best, but that's what all mine eat, and they don't seem to have any problems, they have been eating it for a few years now!
Good luck

I have a Choc Lab / Rottie mix.
He eats a combo of homemade food and Canidae kibble.
Walmart and Alpo are both junk. Iams isnt good either.
Look at the premium foods (go to www.dogfoodanalysis.com). Be cautious with those though. Many premium foods have way too high of protein contents, you want less than 30% and many have 40%+
As for amounts. I give him as much as he wants. If he starts to get pudgy he gets less. If he starts to get too thin I make him eat more. We started on the measurements, but they never worked out right for him and this does-he's always perfect weight at the vet.

I have an 18 month old Lab/Collie and will only feed him Raw food, IMO I have seen a massive differnce since moving him over this diet, it costs the same as the Horrible dry stuff and he enjoys it more
Also feed 2 raw Bones daily

We have a chocolate lab/husky mix. He is about 50 pounds. We feed him 3 cups of dry food a day of Purina Senior. He is 9 years old. We do not give any wet food. He gets at least 2 biscuits today. (Milk Bone: medium dogs)
I'm sorry about your other dog. I hope your dog pulls through.
You could check out Science Diet or Eukanuba if you can afford it. I feed one of my cats Science Diet and they seem to do well on it. The other gets Eukanuba. The dog is my husband's so that's why it gets Purina, otherwise it would be getting Science Diet or Eukanuba.

I have a Black Lab/Rot/Pitt mix and we give her one scoop of Pedigree dry food in the morning as well as a cup in the evening.
My vet said that it isn't a good idea to change the brand of food you feed your dog, so if your dog makes it through, stick to one. Pedigree is a great brand.
Good luck! =]
