There are transcoders like Hand Brake, Visual Hub, i Squint that will do that on a Mac. Rip the DVD to your PC, use VLC to determine which chapters you need to encode for just the movie stripping out trailers, special features, etc. Then transcode, wait a couple hours for the conversion to complete. Add the movie to itunes, sync to your ipod.

Thats Easy. If you want to upload a DVD first download a FREE DVD decrypter and decrypt your DVD then download Videora to Convert the decrypted DVD file to MPEG4. It takes a while but is totally free. Or you can pay $20 for a program that will decrypt and convert at once.

This website has some good, free conversion tools. I have one that let's me encode MP4s and stuff for my Sony-Ericsson phone.
