What does RSDP mean?

I changed out the hard drive in an old PC and am attempting to load the ubuntu operating system. I get a prompt that states "unable to locate RSDP" Then the system attempts to load but fails. Can anyone tell me what's going on?

Update:

The hard drive is the same configuration as the bad one that came out. The hard drive is recognized and shows the capacity.

    What steps have you done?

The old disk failed? Did you get the same type hard drive for your bus?

When you boot your computer and go into setup does your computer recognize your hard drive?

Do you have your disk drive set up for cable select? In some old systems they did not use cable select so you may have to set it to drive 1.

When you start to load your system software is that after you you format the hard drive? Most hard drives require at least a quick format to work well.
