Carter. By far by every measure. If you were not around then you have no idea how bad it was. I was.

It was so bad the nightly news had a misery index that they used to track how unhappy American citizens were. Unemployment was so bad, people with Phd's were driving cabs. If you wanted to buy a house or new car you paid higher interest rates than today's credit cards charge.

There was a shortage of fuel to the point that you spent hours waiting in line for a few rationed gallons of gas. Our enemies in the world laughed at us. They disrespected us. You have no idea how much it sucked.

To get a better picture of how miserable America was under Carter check out the election results when he tried for reelection. When he ran against Ford he received 297 electoral votes to Fords 240. Four years later, Carter received 44 electoral votes to Reagan's 489. That is how bad Carter was.

First if you do not know much about the other Presidents then my suggestion would be to learn before making a determination.

Second exactly how has Bush screwed up more than other Presidents?

The war possibly? Study the Korean War you might feel the same about Harry Truman. Study the Vietnam War and you might feel the same about Lyndon Johnson.

The national security state? Study almost any President in history and you will find abuses in this area.

Unemployment or the economy? To many examples to list which are much worse than Bush.

I do not like George Bush and while he is not the best President ever, he is still far from the worst.

Now here is my answer. I will not answer for all of history, but rather from my own lifetime. The answer is Jimmy Carter. The reasons are because the average American suffered greatly during his tenure due to a weak economy, high interest rates, high unemployment and gasoline shortages to name just a few.

George Washington because he set the precedent for the rest. Most people choose later day presidents because their crimes are more recent and seem worse.

Washington's troops froze at Valley Forge and they weren't even paid. The value of the currency was worthless. Washington convinced the troops to fight for honor. There is not one president who wasn't out for their own interests. The system they (founding fathers) built cemented power in the hands of the rich and the connected and remains so to this day.

I'm sure at least one of the founders didn't believe the constitution would last 50 years.

While I think GW Bush is a terribl President, I think Woodrow Wilson was a terrible President for allowing the establishment of the Federal Reserve Bank.

By doing that he made the United States beholden to a taxation that our country fought against England for in the Revolutionary war.

So we now are a country that is much like the country we then opposed.

Warren G. Harding was pretty bad. Look up the Teapot Dome/Sinclair Oil scandal.

Reagan and first bush were worse. Look up Savings and Loan scandal and Oliver North's sales of weapons to Iran.

Current bush is the absolute worst, has done everything he can to set up a dictatorship in the U.S. at the behest of the people who pull his strings.

Woodrow Wilson. Though i believe this same question has been asked on many other numerous occasions as well.

No question about it, George W. Bush -- first President ever to commit both treason against the U.S. and the U.S. military as well as crimes against humanity. Every previous American President, despite any failures they may have had, at least had good intentions and the best interests of the nation at heart. This one doesn't.

The Current President, because I know many hard core republican who thinks he is a horrible president.

If people in your own party think your bad then you have to be bad.

Carter. Too many reasons to list, but 10% unemployment, 20% interest rates, and 52 hostages stuck in Teheran for 444 days pretty much described his Presidency. Needless to say, he's been a much better ex-President.
