What's a really fun trick to teach a dog?

I have a german shepherd puppy. She's smart and knowslots of commands already. I want to teach her some fun, unique tricks - any ideas? And please include HOW to teach the trick as well :)

These sites reallly helped me teach my dog some cute tricks :

    http://animal.discovery.com/fansites/petstar/video...

    http://www.angelfire.com/on2/dogtricks/indexorg.ht...

heres some others i taught my dog :

We would hold up a treat and ask "Jake " "What is this?" and he would let out a little little bark and then he would get the treat. Another one was "Are you a good doggy?" Move a treat either up and down or left to right(good or bad) and the doggy will follow the treat and after a while when you ask the question she will shake her head, knowing she'll get a treat.

"Get your leash" is cute. Leave the doggy's leash on the floor and ask if she wants to go for a walk, pick up the leash and hand it to her to hold in her mouth, do this every time you want to take her for a walk, soon she'll bring you her leash when she wants to go out.

    Good dog!!!!

I would suggest: Roll Over Play Dead Shake Spin To balance a treat on his nose Bow Speak Crawl Wave Hide your eyes There's several good books out there on teaching tricks, I'd suggest a visit to your library to check one or two out for more ideas!

This isn't really a trick, but I think it's neat when dogs are taught commands in different languages. For a GS it would be german.

Go to dogfancy.com. They might have some for you.

My favorite dog trick is basically play dead but instead of saying that command you make a gun shape out of your hand (I hope you know what I mean by that) and say bang then he falls on the ground legs up. Get your dog to repeat that movement with a simple command and then switch it to the gun, it's a great trick.

If you got a female German Shepherd puppy, then you have the best dog in the world! Very smart and protective of the family. From experience, let me tell you the best trick to teach this dog is "good touch, bad touch". GS shuld be exposed early and often to seeing you get good touches from family and friends ,i.e., hugs, pats on the shoulder or arm, and gentle grabs. She will then realize what bad touches are. Believe me, you'll appreciate this, should you be walking along like my son, with his GS Lexie, and a neighbor touched his arm while talking to him! Good luck with her, you did pick the best!

  • i saw this cute trick called fire. its where you say come. then fire. and the dog stop drops and rolls. all the dog needs to now is how to come, stop, down, and rollover.

another is bow. like a down but only the front goes down.

or rollover (im teaching that to my dog now) just tell it to down and then say rollover allot. and make the dog roll.

or you could do simple commands. sit stay down. ect. but without saying it and using hand motions.

    well hope that helps.

    have fun too!

I taught mine to do the basics, sit, shake, laydown. I also taught one to dance and "play statue" where he lays stiff as a board. You can pick him up, tip him over and he still stays stiff. Its cute. We started by holding him upright and telling him to stay. then we gave him cookies. eventually, he just would stay in that position.

I say kiss and my dog comes up and licks me on the cheek. I just point to my cheek and say kiss while holding a treat, he got the idea!

I have a pit bull that will crawl to me and die.

i make him lie down with a hand sign (point down) and sometimes say "down " (then shake my fingers ) and sometimes say "crawl "and he will crawl to me on the floor . then i (make my fingers into a gun) and say "bang!" and shoot him, and he dies on the floor.

The trick was taught in sections first he was taught down, then "bang" but crawl was the hardest because he understood that i wanted him to be down but didnt understand taht i wanted him to move forward on the ground. It was food that finally got him going. if you can get your hands on these liver treats from dog.com they work great for training.
