Would you like to allow 'so and so' into your network?

Hey, I have to grant permission for people to connect to my 360 page.

Would it be a good idea if Yahoo Answers did the same thing before people could add you as an Answers contact?

Afterall, what good is the option to hide your Q&A from everyone except your network when all anyone has to do is add you as a contact and boom, there in! How is that helping to combat trolls?

Or is it just fine the way it is?

Opinions/comments/suggestions?

Update:

Well, I hope you don't mind Fyre, but I'd like to connect. I think you're a great answerer! (You used to have it blocked, so I couldn't add you.)

Update 2:

Yes, devilwithbluedress, if someone "connects" they can see your Q & A. At least until you "block" them.

That's what I am trying to say, maybe you should be able to grant permission BEFORE they can see your Q & A's.

I log in every day just to see if anyone connected with me and, yes, I delete any that I suspect could be trolls. I like the idea that I could pick and choose who gets connected but, alas, at present either you allow no fans or you take the risk that any Tom, Dick or Harry will sign up.

I wish they'd send a notice saying "So-and-so wants to be yoru fan" and you click "accept" or "deny."

    Good idea.

Glad to have you connect! I just worry about people like the one that just connected. He or she has been a member since March but never asked any questions or answered any questions. Sounds like an alternate ID for a troll! So I "disconnected" them.

Since I've had it with the Yahoo Answers team not being able to distinguish valid reports of abuse from harassment, I now only answer questions from my connections, fans and a few newbies needing help. I'm VERY disappointed with how Yahoo handles the abuse reports. VERY, VERY DISAPPOINTED!

I've said it before (or asked it, I guess).

I believe that hiding questions and answers, and blocking people actually encourages bad behavior on Y!Answers.

If I can hide my questions and answers, then I can ask racist, offensive, abusive and soap-boxy questions, and answer good questions with snippy, abusive, and offensive answers. Then afterward, I just slip back into the mist of all the answerers.

I realize that some women have been subject to internet abuse here, but I don't think blocking and hiding helps more than it hurts.

  • I have my questions and answers hidden. And I have had a few emails from yahoo saying that so and so wants to connect with me. I have not okayed the emails, cause first of all...I'm not here to connect with anyone, just reading questions/answers and answering just to pass my quiet time.

But I have a question on your 3rd paragraph. Is that a fact that if I don't "ok" the email where yahoo says that they want to add me as a contact...can they just go ahead and view my questions/answers without my "ok"?

I have my profile set so that I receive a notice whenever someone "connects" to me. I then go and look at the person's profile, and either allow them -- or block them. I have (unfortunately) some personal criteria I use to determine whether I allow them or not, which, I admit, is fairly arbitrary. But this seems to have gotten me shed of my recent batch of "stalkers".
