VW beetle brakes?

While bleeding the brakes on the rear drums of my beetle I managed to snap off the bleed nipple from the back of the hub. Any ideas on how to get the bugger out to replace it?

it should come out real easy with a easy out or something similar, if not, take the drum off and change the brake cylinder.

First off using an easy out ain't gonna work.

2nd drilling and tapping is not smart unless you are going to rebiuld the cylinder(metal contamination, real bad thing). Rebuild kits are getting harder to find and require special skills and tools a DIY person won't have. Like cylinder hones and training to use them.

Good News is that the wheel cylinders are available(at least on special order) and not frighteningly expensive. Figure 8-20 bucks USA each. This is your best solution.

Any NAPA store can get them.

It would probably be easier to replace the hub if you have a junkyard or parts person that you can get a new used one from.

Get a E-Z Out to remove the broken nipple. The hole is already there, just screw the tool in and it will screw the nipple out.

try to drill it out, cut new thread and replace the nipple.

drill it out and get a tap set and tap the hole to a size bigger and get a new bleeder that size.
