car trailer deck, paint or stain it?
Hi my trailer I use for the desert has a wood deck, what should I use to seal the wood? Paint or stain? I want this "deck" to last.
I tow a long travel baja bug on it

It really depends on the 'look' your going for. A good paint & primer will coat the wood until it chips. A good penetrating stain will seal the wood deeper than paint & will be easier to touch up the stone chips.

Paint is better then stain. Stain will come off if it gets wet or comes off easily when rubbed.
Other options could be use a wood sealer like they use for decks. Or polyurathane it. However this can be very slippery when wet but this would offer the most protection.

Painting it would last longer. If you stained it, it would have to be restained every couple of years. However, if you painted it using a porch and floor paint, it could last 15-20 yrs.

id stain it,this will make it last a lot longer.paint is good on something like that, but staining makes it look better and last longer, and they make the stain now with treatment in it,that really makes it last good, once you paint it you have to stay with paint, and it gets damaged from use, staining is much better,we stained the one we use for the 4 wheelers, and its been out in the weather for 4 years now,an still looks like new, good luck with it.

Stain it. It will last the longest and will not chip or flake due to the boards flexing with the weight on it.
