I'm painting an interior diner scene for my background painting class, but I'm terrible with color what color scheme should I go with?

The scene is fairly loose in style and it will be a day scene.

alot of stainless, alot of neon, black and white checkerd floor, they had alot of paneled walls as well as painted...mostly off whites and yellows (if you want a retro)

look at rockwell's runaway...i think the walls are a kind of green behind the counter.

chrome tubes and vinyle upolstry for the chairs and stools. (red vinyl)

The "retro" colors would be red, black, white and stainless steel. Or you could go with muted tones of green or blue. Color impacts emotion. There are all kinds of books and websites devoted to it. Decide how you want people to feel in the diner, then research colors that help get that kind of response.
