Where did all of these young Republicans come from?
Remember when young Republicans were blond Aryan-types in pastel sweatervests driving Lamborghinis in 80s movies? I saw a kid of Facebook the other day who listed himself as conservative but claimed to love Orwell and Kurt Vonnegut (avowed Socialists). When did this happen? College kids used to be radicals. Damn The Man!
I'm a moderate myself, but I figured rebelling against the patriarchal (usually conservative) believes of parents is part of the college experience. I don't know what to do with post-adolescents who support Bush. It shatters my perception of the world.
If you were more familiar with the works of Orwell, you'd understand.

I've no idea.
Bizarrely, there is a recent tendency for them to try and claim Orwell though. Maybe they should read "Down and Out in Paris and London" some time.
I will say that I perceive that many young cons seem to be more politically active than young liberals. In other words, most college students are still essentialy liberal, but in many cases their liberalism is very passive (they'll roll their eyes when someone mentions politics and won't even bother voting).

I just read in National Review how the youth are a solid constituency for the Democrats.
Many young folks on each side of the aisle!

What does like books have to do with being a conservative or liberal? To be conservative to I have to only read Hannity and Ann Coulter? I find Lewis Black funny, and he is too left wing for my taste, does that make me a liberal? I also like Dennis Miller, am I just confused?

They came from nowhere. College Republicans are dwindling, and self proclaimed conservatives (such as the guy who reads Vonnegut and loves Orwell) are really liberals or middle of the roaders.

The Man is insidious. The Man does not break you to force you to join him. The Man welcomes you in with open arms, holds you tight, feeds you, clothes you, bribes you and steals your soul one atom at a time. By the time you're old, it's too late to change.

Some people are born with brains. Not that the Republicans have much intelligence. Afterall, they support the owners of the Federal Reserve just as much as the Democrats.

Its all part of religious rights agenda. radicals and liberals are labeled communists or gay, ignore them, they will eventually be arrested for having sex with someone in a bathroom and go away

I'm an 18-year old libertarian. College kids are growing and realizing radicalism is bad and being young is no excuse to act like hippies.
