Going much lighter hair color at home?
I have had blonde hair for years...well..several months ago I had the bright idea of going back to my natural color..which I would say is medium brown. About 2 months ago,I used an ash blonde to lighten my hair & it got DARKER!!! I called the help line & she said that there are no products out there that will give me a nice blonde shade without frying my hair. That I would have to initially get it done professionally then I could maintain it at home. Right now, my hair is a light brown,a very bland color & I don't like it at all. I cannot afford to go to the salon at this time-(just starting a new job Wed. after being unemployed for months)...Do you have any advice on lightening my hair at home with no bad effects...or should I just wait until I can go to a salon? And how much does it cost...I'm sure I will need to have it bleached? Thanks to all who answer :)...oh, i should tell you that I used L'oreal Blondissemes years ago...would that work for me now?

Wait and go to a professional salon,or maybe there's a beauty school near by you where students can work on you for free or quarter of the cost and a instructor is always by your side.

Bleach is such a harsh word. You said your hair is not naturally black, that it's colored. Well, color does not lift color. You will need to lighten your hair with bleach but I do not recommend doing your entire head. I would start with highlights all over and lighten up two or three levels. That's safer and you will notice a change. You can do this every 8-12 weeks meaning that if you lighten your hair every two months in 6 months you will be a dark blond, light brown. And I would definitely suggest taking a trip to the salon, it will save you money in the long run.

You should wait. The more you do at home with poor results the harder this is to correct ( and more expensive) in salon. For your job I would strongly suggest wearing your hair back and the ends hidden as much as possible for a professional appearance. Make your hair a priority once you get paid. Best of luck.

Be warned, once you've colored the hair, you won't be able to lighten it using ordinary hair dyes. Those lightening dyes will only work on natural hair. The only thing that works to lighten tinted hair is bleach. You can try and do this at home. Just note, you'll need to tone afterwards.. If your hair appears to have orange shades in it, use an ash toner to counteract this. If it's gold/yellow, use a light violet toner.

one of my sons dyed his blonde hair black---rolling eyes---anyway--once his blonde roots were about an inch and a half long, I bought a kit called frost & glow.( I asked a hairdresser to recommend something) I streaked his hair( being careful not to get any on the blonde) so the clash of the natural blonde to the black wasn't so strong. as everyone knows--lightening a black dye is difficult.
It turned out pretty good--lightened it to a brown which was borderline brassy but because & only did streaks the brassiness is barely noticable.
Yes--he could have easily got a short haircut but he didn't want short. once his blonde roots are longer, the black will all come off

No kidding about this although it sounds a little weird it works for most people. right, spray your hair with lemon juice making sure you have even coverage, then sit in the sun for a few hours.
Goood luck! xxx
