Hi there.
Perhaps it's because we are all Bananas and like chasing teddy bears?
Do the clothes make the man?
Remember there are two sides to every coin. As its already been said what about the speedo's and those blue gi's?
Just remember that the samurai would have been very cold wearing those speedo's!
My point being is that every martial art has a time and its place!
If you were to choose between the modern and traditional then both are incorrect.
It's far more practical to train in clothes of the times or those that fit your surroundings than anything else!
It's very easy to get caught up in ones clothing. But you can learn to use your attackers clothes to your advantage too.
Best wishes

LOL, It's just the traditional uniform. I guess it keeps it more disciplined. If you think that Judo and Karate people wear pajamas, some Chinese martial arts wear silk clothing. Look into Wushu. Talk about comfortable clothing!

Why do ignorant people insist on spouting their uninformed opinions?
First of all, they are not pajamas, Judo is practiced in a GI, which is a traditional uniform. It is made of cotton and strong enough to prevent tearing during grappling.
Second of all, Judogis are also very heavy, which has the double purpose of helping absorb sweat, and gives a little padding when you are being thrown.

The dobaks may look like pj's but they are constructed that way to allow plenty of movement while training. Martial arts is very strenuous and not boring at all. It's exciting.

First of all the statement was uncalled for, and second maybe some martial artist find pajamas to be more comfortable, after all you should wear comfortable clothing while training.

The clothing that is worn needs to be comfortable and loose in order for training to be made easier. Also these clothings need to not chaf when people are thrown to the ground etc. The item of clothing I was wore for ninjitsu was called a gee and this was also similar to pj's.
These are far from boring and they are really good fun and very enegetic.

Started to answer your question cause I thought I might agree with you but no ... I don't like the fact that the clothes uniform is 'white' not clever if you being thrown to the floor or rolling around on it. But thanks for asking cause some of the above answers are really very funny

visit a local club and see what can be done wearing pjamas.
gi's (judo and Karate) are traditional, they allow free movement and have only slightly changed over the years.

it's not tht in the times that those martial arts started they wore baisicaly pajamas because they were so flexable so you could move freely trust me none of those martial arts are boring but thai chi is boring

They aren't pyjamas... It's the traditional uniform. It's made to be flexible and comfortable, and you wear your belt on top. In Tae Kwon Do, it is called a Dobok.
