Mans failure or the Church??

A recent poll showed that 1 in 3 think Joan of Ark is the wife of Noah.

1 in 3 can identify the speaker in the Sermon on the Mount.

1 in 10 can identify the first book of the Bible.

And it only gets worse.

Is this mans failure or is it the failure of the Church??

The Churches. The ones I've been to in the past take a bible verse and make an hour sermon on that verse with their own idea's put in it, stretch it. dance around it, shout and jump around, pass the collection plate, pray and pass the collection plate again! Where is the bible education in that?

It is a combination of things, including an anti-God culture that keeps attacking the younger generation in colleges, TV, etc. It is also the fault of families that drag their kids to church on Sunday but do not actually pass on the faith in a meaningful way.

from the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

CCC 2225 - Through the grace of the sacrament of marriage, parents receive the responsibility and privilege of evangelizing their children. Parents should initiate their children at an early age into the mysteries of the faith of which they are the "first heralds" for their children. They should associate them from their tenderest years with the life of the Church. A wholesome family life can foster interior dispositions that are a genuine preparation for a living faith and remain a support for it throughout one's life.

CCC 2226 - Education in the faith by the parents should begin in the child's earliest years. This already happens when family members help one another to grow in faith by the witness of a Christian life in keeping with the Gospel. Family catechesis precedes, accompanies, and enriches other forms of instruction in the faith. Parents have the mission of teaching their children to pray and to discover their vocation as children of God. The parish is the Eucharistic community and the heart of the liturgical life of Christian families; it is a privileged place for the catechesis of children and parents.

    Both.

People can find answers to questions about God by searching on their own and looking in the bible (that's what I did)

But people should also rely on their churches to educate as well - that's one of the many reasons we go to church... to learn the Word.

Considering that MANY intelligent, educated Americans believed the WMD non-sense that led to the US invasion of Iraq; and that many, to this day, still believe Iraq had something to do with 9-11 ...

What can the church do, if people CHOOSE to be STUPID?

It is up to the indvidual and how God works in their life.

If it is the Churches problem and the persons sensitive and obedient to the Holy Spirit, God perhaps may urge him to seek somewhere where they will help him grow and learn.

It's one in the same. The "Church" is a man-made institution so the church's failure is man's failure too.
