So many people go on today expecting everything to be honke dory because they have a pop up blocker. Not so, if you do not have a firewall, I suggest you turn on windows firewall, by going to control panel and selecting Security->Firewall and enable it. Then download AVG's free virus scanner and scan EVERYTHING you download, especially the archives(file.zip). It is probably to late for you to do anything now, but try selecting Run Windows Normally with the arrow keys then press ENTER. From there see if you can get AVG and scan your computer and delete that virus, it sounds like malware, and in that case your butt is kicked. If all else fails you have to reformat and you will lose everything. Pictures, Music, and all. If you had iTunes and bought music from them, you can restore that though. Now how to reformat it:

Your machine should have came with a restore disk, and if it did put in the the disk and restart the computer. Then when the computer comes on t will say Hit A Button to boot from disk. Hit the button it tells you, then select the option here it wipes everything out. For instance, Insignia's HP restore disk is called Quick Format, and that dletes everything and puts windws back on. If you do not have this disk, put in the windows disk and do as it tells you. Eventually it will ask for your username and stuff, and put that in. Now log in to windows and first put up the firewall as indicaed earlier, then go to google and search for AVG Free Virus Scanner, and download it. Install it. Update it (When you run it, it will say check for updates? and do so.). Run it. Run a scan. Clear all found viruses. Then go to microsoft and download Windows Service Pack 2. Install it. Now go and get all the automatic updates from microsoft, and finally download a pop up blocker. Congratulations, you are safe from viruses as long you scan everything with AVG and scan your system every now and then.

Hope this helps. *Nudges towards best answer*

You'll need to run chkdsk /r on your C: drive.

To do this you can use the recovery console on the winXP install disk, or find a bootdisk with chkdsk on it at bootdisk.com
