Heroes symbol......?

Why is the heroes symbol a solar eclipse? I get that there was one on the first episode, but in all honesty, it has absolutely nothing to do with the show from what I've seen.

Keep in mind I still have about six episodes left to watch of the first season, so please don't put in any spoilers!!!

I don't want to spoil you, but I don't think this is too spoilery...

"The eclipse is one of those secrets that we'll hold onto," writer-producer Jesse Alexander tells Wizard [Magazine]. "I wouldn't be surprised if Season 2 started with an eclipse. There's a scientific and spiritual significance for the eclipse to the specific 'Heroes' storyline."

So in other words, only TPTB know. :)

ETA: In response to your message (because I just can't work with only 90 characters!)...

I know that solar events happen frequently, visible in different places, but they're still pretty rare in any one place. "The last total solar eclipse visible from the continental United States occurred on Feb. 26, 1979. A total solar eclipse was visible from Hawaii and Mexico on July 11, 1991. The next two total solar eclipses visible from the United States occur on Aug. 21, 2017 and Apr. 8, 2024." (http://www.mreclipse.com/Special/SEprimer.html ) Granted, that's not as rare as Haley's comet or something like that, but it's still pretty rare.

Although, I don't actually think that it is the rarity that is important, but the symbolism of the event. I have no idea what the writers are planning, but I do know that eclipses are associated with events and mythology throughout history. Just look at this list of eclipses associated with events... http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/SEhistory/SE... and... http://hbar.phys.msu.su/gorm/atext/ginzele.htm

Here are some quotes about how people used to feel about eclipses... http://www.mreclipse.com/Special/quotes1.html I think the ones like this...

. . . and the Sun has perished

    out of heaven,

and an evil mist hovers over all.

Show sort of what the writers were going for. Of course, I'm just guessing. From what I understand, we'll find out the official reason of why the eclipse is so important in the start of the second season.
