I noticed that someone thinks you need to check with the ISP!!! As if. It is nothing to do with them whether or not you have a wireless router or not. I've had my gripe so on with the diag.

If you cannot get a correct ip address it is becasue your PC is not getting one in the correct range.

Start

run

cmd /k ipconfig /all <press enter>

if your ip address starts with anything other than 192 the you are getting a default address set by the operating system. If this is the case check your cable. However, if it worked with the 205 it will work with the Belkin. So my guess is the fllowing is true.

if the address is192.168.x.y where x is not equal to 2 and y is anything between 1 and 255 then you have a fixed address configured. (it may be 192.168.1.1 if you tried to share your connection before). This needs to be removed.

Start

control panel

network connections

right click on Local Area Connection and goto properties

double-click on TCP IP Protocol

Set both 'Obtains' to Automatic.

Press OK and OK again,

Restart the PC and try to connect to router on 192.168.2.1 again.

Not valid would imply not connected, according to the Belkin site the address your typing is correct.

I would advise checking the address by using the ping command. Windows key and r, type cmd in the window that appears. To use the ping command type ping 192.168.2.1 and press return. You should get a response from this command telling you if the host is reachable.

This is a direct method of accessing another piece of network equipment, in this case your browser. If the ping command does not work then I would say the break is with your hardware.

Post back with the result and someone can then advise you.

Try this:

At your laptop click on the start button and select run. Type in cmd and press the enter key. This should take you to a command prompt. at the command prompt type ipconfig and press the enter key. If you are connected to the router properly you should get an IP address. It should be 192.168.1.x with "x" being any number other than 1, 0 or 255. I suspect the router is probably 192.168.1.1 instead of 2.1. Try that and see if you can connect to the router.

Open up a cmd window by typing cmd in the Run box. Then type ipconfig into the window and press enter. This will give you the IP address of your wireless adaptor and of your router (listed as the gateway). Then type the IP address of your router in your browser and continue. In all probability it will be 192.168.x.1 where x could be 0, 1, 2 or even 100.

The Belkin wireless router I know of is the F5D7230. I can't find any support information for a 7630 at the Belkin web site. If I remember correctly, this router has an ethernet switch for wired computers. If so, check to make sure the switch is on.

That includes the information for checking your connection. I believe you are using the correct IP address for the Belkin router and your ISP doesn't need to know you are going wireless for it to work.

first of all unhook all connections to the router,make sure

your modem is still on the net,next put in the installation cd

that came with the router hopefully you still have the install cd

next follow the instructions carefully DO NOT skip any steps.

you should be ok.

I haven't used that router but if you have got the ability to set it up with the wire 1st thats probably the best idea, that way you know everything is working like it should.

Also try 192.168.0.1 that is more likely to be the router and 192.168.0.2 is likely to be the computer.

can you connect to any web sites...typing 192.168.2.1 will allow you to get into your router to configure it.

Maybe try 192.168.1.1 as well for the router.
