Cook them in a casserole in the oven, maybe with some stock and use a pint of cider. Buy 4 cans of cider, use one and drink the rest. You could add some veg into the casserole and cook it long and slow

    Pork and cider casserole

The grated carrot adds a touch of sweetness to this wonderful mid-week supper dish and the creme fraiche blends with the cider to make a luscious sauce. Perfect with plain rice or new potatoes.

    serves 4

    Prep Time: 20 minutes

    Cooking Time: 35 minutes

900g pork, cut into cubes (or ready-diced pork)

    6 tbsp flour

    2 tspn paprika

    salt and pepper

3-4 tbsp vegetable or sunflower oil

    25g butter

    200g mushrooms, sliced or quartered

    1 clove garlic, chopped

2 x medium carrots, peeled and grated

    500ml dry cider

    200ml crème fraiche

Season the flour with the paprika, salt and pepper and toss the pork cubes to coat all sides.

Heat half of the oil in a large frying pan or flameproof casserole and fry the pork until browned. You may have to do this in batches, adding a bit more oil as needed. Remove the pork and set aside.

Melt the butter in the same pan and fry the mushrooms and garlic until just soft, for about 2-3 minutes. Add the grated carrot and stir through. Add the cider and bring to the boil, scraping up any bits from the bottom. Simmer until reduced by about half.

Stir in the crème fraiche, return the pork to the pan, cover and simmer gently for 20-25 minutes.

Pork & Apple CasserolePork chops (1 per person)

    1-2 sliced apples

    1 sliced onion

    fresh (or dried) sage leaves

Cider* - or stock if you prefer

Layer all the ingredients in an oven proof dish - onions then apples then chops.

Sprinkle sage leaves between the layers and over top.

Pour the cider over to cover the ingredients.

Cover the dish and braise in the oven for around 45 mins

Serve with creamy mash and vegetables

Fry the steaks to your liking then remove from pan & keep em warm.

Chop some onion or leek & fry them in the same pan until soft.

You can add some apple quarters if you like, remove them for finished dish though or they'll turn to mush.

Add the cider to the onion/leeks in the pan & bring to boil, (remember to much will be thin sauce, too little will be thick sauce) add some herbs, sage goes well & seasoning.

Reduce this until you have as much as you need.

I then like to add some good french mustard to flavour & thicken the sauce.

Put pork steaks back in pan with sauce & give it a couple of minutes more on low heat until things are to your liking, check seasoning etc.

Serve with whatever you like, plain boiled spuds & some green leafy veg is nice.

    Enjoy

You can poach them in cider. No apples the cider is flavorful enough. Make some potato pancakes served with apple sauce and maybe some fresh corn on the cob.

What time is dinner and what can I bring.

Never cooked with cider before.... I'd salt & pepper the meat & let the steaks sit in cider overnight. Pan fry or grill them next day.
