Can you drink buttermilk?

Can I drink it? NNNOOOOOOoooooo!!!!! It isn't tart, it's sour. The buttermilk that you see in the stores is actually cultured buttermilk. It tastes rancid to me.

When I was a kid, we could get real FRESH buttermilk. That was whole milk that had the butter cream in it. People would buy it to make butter or ice cream. And it was drinkable. I have tasted it, and it was sweet and delicious. But it is WAYYYYyyyyy too rich in fat to be healthy.

I'm getting on in years now, but just once I wish I could get real fresh buttermilk. When it's cold, it is incredible!

Can You Drink Buttermilk

Buttermilk is an acquired taste. My mom and dad loved it, I hate it. I cook with it. Yes, it is always thick and tart regardless of brand. I make a buttermilk pie that is out of this world, but I don't want to drink it.

I drink it all the time; it is an acquired taste and takes some getting used to. It is very healthy for you, it is a cultured dairy product and probiotic like yogurt.

I love buttermilk but a lot (if not most) people seem to hate drinking it straight. I doubt there's a different brand that you'd like better although you might be able to acquire a taste for it. It's just got a very different taste that some people love and some people hate --- it's almost like drinking liquid-y sour cream.

U can drink buttermilk. Many people find it very refreshing. But the only way I consume it is in buttermilk pancakes.

buttermilk is what it is, some people like it, and some don't. i like it in cooking, but not by itself, but my granny will just break up some cornbread, put it in a glass and pour buttermilk on it and eat it like that! it all depends on your taste. around christmas time you should look for some boiled custard. it's pretty much the texture of buttermilk or egg nog, but it's sweet and kinda reminds me of liquid cheesecake with extra vanilla flavoring. :)

My grandparents ALWAYS drank buttermilk.....according to them it was refreshing on hot days. Sometimes my grandma would add sugar to it to cut the tartness.

I LOVE buttermilk! My grandparents drank it... It is thick and... a little "tart" I would guess.. but it is good.

Perhaps you had sweetened condensed milk? It has a thicker taste and is, well, sweet. Also, if you have had Thai iced tea, this is in it.
