why do people on yahoo answers think it's clever to pull people up on their questions when their native tongue

People who are obsessed with Yahoo Answers are often people who are frustrated with communication in real life. They don't feel they are heard by others so this anger causes them to want to lash out and criticize others. So they turn to Yahoo Answers because they feel inadequate when expressing themselves orally.

It is easy to tell if someones first language isn't English, but they often use the language better than those who's first language is English because they are taught properly in the use of grammar and syntax and all that stuff.

It does piss me off though when someone uses text speak or someone who is English and will not put together a question that makes sense because they are lazy.

It's frustrating to some people but just plain rude to make fun. These people have no manners and that is the worst crime. Common good manners are free and so easy and accessible to every one. I know many English/American folks who can't even begin to attempt a foreign language..

I couldn't agree more. Most of those who ridicule a non-native speaker of English for imperfect use of the language couldn't put together two words in, say, Danish. And probably not even in Spanish, the most studied foreign language in the U.S. I have nothing but admiration for people who put in the effort necessary to communicate in a language that's not their mother tongue. If you weren't born an English speaker, you're doing a good job, so keep it up!

Perhaps they too are victims of cultural imperialism in their belief that theirs is the first language of communication, although a billion Chinese may disagree? Another example is why are non whites described as part of a minority when they make up 80% of the worlds population? It might make them feel better in their insecurity? Why worry, me, Ive decided to learn Polish for the fun of it and then all the Poles can laugh at my mistakes.

Why!, because you encountered a dumb English speaking person that probably only knows one word in a foreign language "cervesa", and can't even speak their native tongue correctly, so he or she probably felt superior for once in their sad lifes by correcting you.

Don't worry about it as your English will soon overtake theirs.

Coz they are a bunch of..of...of..how do you say...dumb asses! - Im fed up with americans correcting my english (even though american isnt really english) im from britain for god's sake..i should know english. I guess what im trying to say is that they correct the british slang terms i use and change them to american words..i guess there was no point in answering this question..jeez im such a scatterbrain.lol sorry if you feel overwelmed..im a bit tired/hyper today..ach ok im done..

They're just wrong. I appreciate the fact that people are learning English and are trying to reach out, and I would never be nasty to someone for something like that.

Because unfortunately, there are some people who are mean-spirited. I believe it is because they have no compassion on others and they are very insecure people; they are hurtful to others because it makes them feel in some way that they are superior.

Most of them are false - if you read what they post one day, then it is all correct English the next time they post a question.

Here,Here !! I agree with you totally!! There are words that are used sometimes by Brits that I have never heard before but it doesn't mean that I'm stupid!!
