Process issue?
OK this one has floored me. i dont get it.
I had an electrical storm today and shut down my computer and unplugged it. nothing unusual. BUT, when I rebooted for some reason all of my processes are now eating up 10 times the memory and when i try to run a game, it refuses to start up stating that it requires 4.5 billion bits of memory.
Anyone ever heard this before? I even tried rolling back a few days and it still says no. I dont get it. PLEASE help!
Thanks

Okay, off the beaten path, open task manager, select the tab "processes". At the bottom of this window, does it show your cpu usage at 100%? If so, look for a process called "svchost" (there are usually about 4-5 running) double click the heading tab "cpu", sometimes you have to double click it twice,(until the biggest usage process is at the top of the list. (if it is "system idle" leave it alone) If you have a "svchost" process that is using above 40-100%, download the microsoft fix KB927891 and install it. The fix will not list your problem per say, but it is the fix.

Really, all of the processes? That is a weird one. I would first go to Windows Update. If Update can't complete it will give you a reason why and how to fix the problem.
If you have the install CD available, use the system file checker to fix or replace any missing or corrupted system files. Click Start, Run, and type "sfc /scannow" in the box(without quotes) and click OK. It will prompt you for the CD if it needs it.
