My walnut trees are loosing all their leaves......why?

I have some walnut trees in my yard and they are loosing their leaves, badly. We have had lots of rain so it's not water and I don't see any bugs or anything on them. I have lots of trees and it is only the walnut trees that are having a problem.

Walnuts are the last tree to leaf out in the spring and first to drop there leaves in the fall, make that first in the summer, to loose them. I sometimes wonder how they have time to make a nut. RScott

Well, we had several tree growing in our backyard at one time. Big, old, beautiful oaks and pecans and sicamores. Last summer, they all started losing their leaves and later some limbs. Finally, when the biggest pecan tree fell over, we realized the problem: gophers. They had absolutely destroyed the roots of every single tree. We head a pest control guy come to get them, hoping to slavage what was left of our yard. Out of 20 something trees, there are only 7 left... What I mean to say is this: just because you can't SEE anything eating your tree, doesn't mean nothing is.
