How much money should I bring and what to see in Taipei?

I am going to Taipei with a friend for 5 days. That included arrival date and departure date. The Autumn Full Moon Festival will be on the last night we are there. How much money should we take and what do?

Update:

We have already made reservations at a hostel for 5000 NTD for both of us together for the 4 nights.

Update 2:

I am also wondering more per person rather than together as a whole. We want to visit places like Taipei 101 and the Taipei zoo. Plus have a nice time outside of visiting places. Don't mind taking the bus to get places, although our hostel might be a little out of the way as we went for a place that wasn't in the middle of the city. They have a shuttle service to and from the hostel and breakfast is included everyday.

It really depends on what your tastes are.

I have added a site that I am sure will allow you to get enough information to figure it out yourself.

    http://www.taiwanfun.com/north/taipei/in...

This site will give you allot of info, in English or Chinese.

    http://www.tealit.com/

This site may or may not help. It is the main site for foreigners living and working in Taiwan.

I hope this helps you. Enjoy your trip.

Try to stay in an inexpensive hotel - you'll be gone most of the time anyway.

Get a what's called a bus card. You load it with money, and can use it on MRT, subway, and busses in Taipei. Places to visit:

Taipei 101 (Tallest bldg in the world).

Get a map still at the airport, and visit a night market. - Electronics/computer? visit Kwang Hwa market.

Tam sui - Take the TamSui MRT line to the north end. There you can see sights along the river or take a ferry to the other side. There's also an old Dutch fort there somewhere.

Visit a traditional day market. There you can fight over the fruits and cooked meats or whole meals.

Enough for now. For tours check with the hotel, or an info stand at the airport terminal.

if you bring about 20000 NT$ for food/gifts you should be able to get by COMFORTABLY and still have money left over for after. You can bring more if you like shopping a LOT. Probably for 5 days it would cost you about 1500-2500NT$ a night for a reasonable place, unless you plan to backpack it and stay in a hostel, in which case you can get by at like 200$-400$NT a night. You can survive on just 1000 NT a day if you are careful. But thats not very fun. Some people can even get by on like 400NT a day. Thats really counting pennies and is kind of difficult if you don't know which street food vendors to visit and if you want to see anything...

I recommend seeing Taipei 101, "CKS Memorial hall" or is it now "Democracy Memorial hall"... ? ? ?, The Palace Museum, YangMingShan national park, BaiShaWan beach, ShrLin Night market, WuPenFu market, The Central Train Station (easy to see if you are riding around the MRT to get to most of these places) The Taipei zoo is actually not too bad, if you aren't anti-zoo. The facilities at least TRY to give the animals a place somewhat like their environment...

I highly recommend staying in the BeiTou hotsprings area at a decent hotel and then you can max out in your gigantic private hottub each night. ~~That clocks in a bit more expensive though- usually about 3000NT to 4000Nt a night for that.

Bring good walking shoes you could handle getting wet possibly, an umbrella for sun/rain protection and light clothes.

Thats all I can think of offhand for Taipei. There is more!

Since you will be there for only 3 full days, you will need USD$200 a day for meal and fun. Thins are expensive in Taipei. You maybe able to get a free day or half day tour, get the booklet in the airport. The tour will take you to several interesting places. I don't think you should spend time visiting Zoo. I will consider attend local tour to see Taipei first. Also, don't forget to see one of the night market where you can find anything and eat all kind of local food. Good luck had have fun.

    1. NT$16,000 (excluding shopping)

1700 to and from the airport by taxi

1000x2 subway and bus fares (5 days)

2400 accommodation at Prof. Lee's Twin Bed Suite in Sansia (4 nights)

4000x2 meals and gourmet foods (5 days)

    2. Prof. Lee will offer a worthy and enjoyable tour plan when you meet; he can show you around if you do not understand Chinese.

    3. Prof. Lee advocates peace and health through international travel, mutual understanding, and reciprocal hospitality.

Well, that all depends on how & what you intend to do for your holiday here.

Besides hotel accommodation, here are some costs you may want to take into account:

airport bus into city is approx. NT$ 135 one way

airport taxi into city is approx. NT$1,500 & up one way

taxi fares around town cost between NT$ 150 to $250 average depending on distance, but this average is within city limits only

MRT fare to get around each way approx. NT$ 25

meals out for one should budget for at least NT$ 600 to 1,000 per day ( incl. breakfast, lunch & dinner)

cost of shopping?..........only you can figure that out
