Fish tank filter broke, how long will my fish last?
I'm changing my 12 gallon fish tank to a 28 gallon. As I was setting up the 28, I noticed the filter in my 12 gallon has died. I've tried everything!
I have very hardy danios, which I am going to move to the larger tank tomorrow after it has cycled through. Will my fish last a day without the filter?

Yes, they should. If you are worried, check the ammonia and nitrite levels now, and if either measure anything, change 35% of the water. Change that much water again tomorrow, unless you are ready to put the fish right into the new tank. Remember that if you put fish into a brand new tank, it will have to cycle. Depending on how much bacteria is still alive in the 12 gallon tank tomorrow, moving gravel and/or filter media with your fish (gravel would be better as it still has access to the ammonia produced by your fish) to the new tank will shorten or even eliminate the cycling time. Either way, you need to monitor the nitrite and ammonia levels in the new tank for at least a week or two to make sure there are enough bacteria established. Good luck.

Maybe the old tank has a crack through the bottom piece of glass. Tanks are not all that expensive but you may have to call a few stores to find one that will sell you a replacement tank and not a kit. It should take only about an hour to get the new tank set up. Can your wife do it if you have to be at work? Most fish stores are open by 9 or 10 AM. By noon your wife could have the new tank at home and by the time you got home it would all be done. Be sure to remind her to add water conditioner before adding the fish back into the tank.

yes they can survive during the time. small fish tanks don't have filters, and they last a long time. it just depends on how you manage the fish. don't feed them too much, because they'll litter around and cause the tank to be dirtier much quicker.
just be careful on how much you feed them. if you have alot of fish, they will last about 1-3 days. not last, i mean the tank won't get very hazardous for the fish within 1-3 days.
hope this helps!

They should definitely be okay for one day.
My sister has about 4-5 large fish tanks and they lost power for 2 days. All of their fish were fine.

I think they should be just fine, its only for one day. Mine were without power for 5 days during an ice storm, and I just took out water and added regular water everyday. If mine can live through all that, they have got to live through one day.
