Wow you must be a pretty confident person to begin with. I hate giving speeches or standing up in class since my voice just gets dry and I sound angry. But I'll still try my best to help you. The main thing is that you should sound confident and humble at the same time. Smile but in a way that shows your class and not that you're taking things lightly or your vanity. Sound amused and interested throughout your speech having a smile on helps, and your tone will keep your fellow students awake and attentive. I mean if you're interested and excited (not too excited) about an issue well they will find a reason as well. Make sure you seem likeable and good natured as well. Don't be in too much of a hurry yet speak firmly with full of energy, stand straight shoulders back. (Helps you feel more confident and gives the same impression to those around you).

Now your speech itself, it helps to ask rhetorical questions, and making the audience feel involved. You could start off in a humble way of including yourself among your classmates. The reason for your choice, why you want to be the council president. Hi thank you for your time initialy or at the end of your speech does wonders, especially if you mean it, and do mean it. If you're honest with yourself others will trust you quicker. Hi first off I would like to thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedules to listen to a few words from me, ( with a humble smile at the of that little sentence) will set the mood.

    As you all know .....(smile).

I am running for student council. (which makes it sound as if its obvious knowledge and you are only saying it as a formality and you are quick to move on. Well you might be wondering why I am doing this (make them believe you're sort of embarassed) and elaborate why it might seem like unnecessary work and so they understand the sacrifices you have made to stand before them

...well I will tell you, (pause, then continue) you may have noticed................ then go on with the rest of your speech. outline some of the the problems, what needs to be done. then last of all state what you can do about them. don't say if im elected i'll do this or that. It seems as if you're trying to trick them. say what should be done what you want to do (mean it) finally finish off with its the students choice after all we are a democracy, we can fix these problems, with your help we can make the school better for all of us, ,,,,,, then finaly finish off with a smile and a sincere thank you. Have a sense of humour and enjoy yourself on stage.

and finally Good Luck, remember sometimes what you don't say and body posture says much more. Keep your speeches sweet and short. So that the audience won't resent you for boring them. You don't have to say all your plans, you can easily use their imaginations to your benifit. Sometimes you can make them think there are a lot of problems, say that you have the sincerest wishes of fixing them, involve the audience and you will win. It is a mental battle less is more, quality not quantity. Once again good luck

  • Start off by telling them your name, and then explaining the current state of the school, focusing on the positives and explaining how you can do better. Don't say too much, because people have short attention spans, but do play to the emotions and feelings of your fellow students. Tell jokes and be witty, and most of all, have fun. Good luck!

Try to be the last candidate to speak. Don't BS your fellow students. Being phony is the number one thing you can do wrong. Don't promise pie in the sky changes leave them with the feeling that you will speak for them, that you will be their advocate and voice to a system that really doesn't permit you any power.

Tell them about yourself, what you would do when elected, and why you want to be elected. If you do that, all there's left to do is see who the best candidate is.
