I'm thinking about getting my first cellphone & need everyone's input, please.?

okay...my home phone is about $50.00 per month...I hardly ever use a phone but now want to convert to a cellphone only. The thing is..I know NOTHING about them....I did check out verizon..online & found that their basic pkg. is 39.99 plus the price of the phone, right? Do you have to commit to a contract on all cell phones? What about trac phones...your opinion? I wouldn't really care about text messaging, pics, music, etc. I need a cheap dependable phone...help!

Try a pay as you go phone first. Tracfone for example. That way there is no contract. You can see what a cell phone would cost per month.

us cellular uses the att/cingular network. if your not going to be a high user anything will work. you can move your home phone number to your new cell phone and drop your home phone bill. LD is included on cell phones. most company's have a 2 year contract. a free phone and 39.99 plus tax for 450 daytime Min's and 5000 nights and weekends, free Mobile to Mobile calling.

Currently I'm on U.S. Cellular - and of the cell phones I've used - including AT&T and Verizon - U.S. Cellular is the best one. I do a bit of traveling and U.S. Cellular pretty much works everywhere, which is more than I could say for the other phones.
