paternity tests.?

i can't believe i'm asking this, but i keep getting told the same thing. my ex-roommate had a child shortly over 9 months ago. odds were 50/50 the baby was mine, or someone else's (i was aware of her affair). well, she convinced the other person it was his, so they had a test done. the results came back 99.998% he was the father. broke my heart, but i accepted the results as i was shown the document.

my question is, what are the odds that two people can have the same results. i wouldn't even be asking this, except for the fact that EVERYONE says he looks like me. even the alleged father was convinced he was mine when first born. i figured i wasn't once i saw the results, but there is an overwhelming number of people that think i should get a test as well. no i ask, i would be wasting my time, wouldn't i? i would love it if the child was mine, and i let go, but everyont else won't let it go.

what do you think? please be kind with your replies.

Update:

unfortunately, it was mailed to him. everything is legit. they went to the testing place together. i think i just needed reassurance from outside my friends. i know these tests are completely accurate. i think my friends are just in denial. i've accepted it, but they can't seem to. thanks for your input

If the test was done correctly, there is NO chance it is wrong. Sorry.

If it would ease your mind, then by all means, have a test of your own done!

It's a long-shot, but there are occasional mistakes, and if she's being spiteful for some reason, she very well could have forged the results that she showed you. That's unlikely, though.

If the baby really looks like you, and not like the other 'dad', then if you don't have a test of your own, you will wonder all your life. I'd rather have the test now and be disappointed than regret not having it done later on.

The odds of two people having the same DNA are about 1 in 7 billion or something like that. More than there are people on this planet so unless you're the other guys identical twin the tests are correct. Unless they somehow switched the DNA samples around between yours and his. That's highly unlikely though, they're really careful with that stuff.

There is a chance that the documentation she showed you is false. Was this information actually MAILED to him by the company performing the test? If not, it can be suspicious. However, if the test was properly performed (legal chain of custody), it is accurate. They test many more pairs today making it pretty certain that it is one person and not another.

If you would feel better having the test done again, then do it. Are you sure that the paper was valid?? Maybe she forged the document. You will always wonder in your life if the baby is yours...so ask her if you can go and get it done again for your peace of mind.
