Update:

I have had UC. I developed it when I was 12 and it got so bad that I had to have a colectomy at 16 - which involed having an ileostomy for several years. I then had an ileoanal pouch constructed which hasn't made any difference to my life. I'm 24 now and am still living my life tied to the bog like a ball and chain! Ha ha!

Although seriously, I'm still very ill and it has taken a toll on my young self. I'm a fighter though!

Somthing like 500,000 people in the U.S.have Crohn's in one form or another. Wonder Woman [ Linda Carter] in real life has Crohn's pretty bad I guess.I've had Crohn's since about 1976.Sometimes it's not easy.Hang in there. Allso, try a bulk fiber laxitive like metimucle.I take it after each meal.It works wonders. It was sugested to me by a G.I. doctor I had at the time. You'll notice the differance.

I have IBS, and it has not been fun. I finally have it some what under control. I take two citracel tablets twice a day and I completely cut pork products out of my diet. I found that eating ham, bacon, or whatever else comes from a pig would completely upset the stomach and below. My doctor said its because my body(and most peoples) can not digest the fats in the pork products.

I also watch out on the veggies. Sometimes I am fine, others I am not. So I try to save my veggies until dinner time when I am home and in the comfort of my home, rather than some stall at the office bathroom! :)

I wish everyone the best of luck and trying to keep everything as controlled as we can!

My mum has crohns, she was misdiagnosed as UC at the age of 24 and then when she was 40 they said, oops sorry you actually have Crohns.

She has since had the bag operation, although not everyone needs to have this, her health has improved heaps since then. My gran also has it and my doctor is concerned I may have it aswell.

  • I have a sister with UC and an aunt with Crohn's - I myself have IBS. Try a web search for "Crohn's support groups" - you may find people to talk with.

My best friend's daughter had her first attack of crohn's when she was in the fourth grade. She has been in and out of hospitals since. What a terrible way to live your childhood.
