What happened to the "surge"?
The surge was supposed to be temporary, but now Bush is going to tell us what a great guy he is for bringing 30k troops home by next summer. How big was the surge? 20-30k! Funny thing is, unless we extend deployments again and cut back on the time between deployments, we HAVE to bring those 30k home by next summer anyway, and there are no more soldiers to replace them.

well, it is temporary...until next summer!
also it took time to complete (completed in June), since it takes a lot to make it happen, not only the move of personnel, but equipment needed to be moved from the US to Iraq no easy task if you know anything about military affairs!
also the "surge" in reality is a "reinforcement" of the troops there, something done by armies since the beginning of war...!

You are missing that the military tactics used with the surge have brought solid gains in that area. Our Troops are clearing big areas and holding it afterwards for the most part.
The main purpose of the surge was to get rid of insurgents and lower the level ofviolence. It was also hoped that the reduction of violence would make it easier for the political parties to come together. That part has not resulted but that is really a diplomatic aspect and there is some big progress in the last few weeks such as the main political parties have agreed to share the oil profits together. Why is that not being reported? Look at Korea, Germany-we still have troops there after decades and the middle east will be the same.

Nobody know when the effects of the surge will start being noticeable but you must remember that all of this takes time, something alot of people can't really grasp, The surge is a dangerous undertaking but our Soldiers and Marines understand that and are doing their best to complete the mission.
Soldiers during the previous wars stayed there for 3, 4, 5 years until the mission was completed one way or another, during the Vietnam war, they didn't get a chance to finish what they started, largely due to the media and the war protesters who hide behind the Make Love not war creed.
Our Troops need to know that we support them 100%, theres no such things as "I support our troops, not the war", kind of like Im just a little bit pregnant.
We are committed to this and must see it all the way through, If we don't...well I don't really want to think about that.
(TO: Philbert:) Warmongers? I'm a Republican, I've serve in the Military for a long time, I could chosen any career but I chose to serve, so that people like you can have the right to call us warmongers and all of those other nice wrods you like to call us, Just be thankfull for "warmongers" like us that sacrifice thier safety and lives for you to badmouth us, also be thankful that you weren't born in a Country that would make you disapear for saying less that what you say again't the government.
