Has the NFL gotten boring for you over the years?

Or is it just me? I used to love waking up on Sunday mornings for football, but it's just not exciting to me anymore. Somehow they've managed to make the games shorter, but miraculously there are more commercials. If I try to watch a game, I usually end up changing the channel after the 2nd or 3rd commercial break and looking for a movie. When the movie goes to commercial I check back with the game only to find... another commercial!!! Does this get on anyone else's nerves?

Update:

sexc horny now- I realized ut years ago, but never had a forum to ask if others felt the same

Shiloh- I think I'm old school too.

Enforcer- the vikings are in a division that's never dull, and I don't think that's the problem, I still enjoy watching college football. They play all afternoon and the players actually work up a sweat. If you told me Wyoming Teachers College was playing Coppin St. I'd probably watch it out of curiosity.

WVU fan- "You'll Never Walk Alone"

ii7-v7- You're right. I don't watch TV except for baseball, football and boxing. The only sport where the commercials disrupt the game is football. I used to watch the Simpsons, but now I can download it.

And what the heck is the View? Whose view? Is it some sort of propaganda show?

I tend to agree. Commercials aside, it's the consistency (or lack of consistency/parity) that bothers me.

There are only about 5 or 6 great quarterbacks in the entire world -- and they're on the Colts, Patriots, Bengals, Eagles (if he's truly healthy) and depending on how consistent they're playing, you can throw the Saints and Steelers in this conversation. Then you have San Diego, and as long as LT can get his hands on the ball 30-40 times a game, the Chargers will be successful as well. The rest of the teams can be thrown into pretty much the same category -- mediocre mainly because their quarterbacks are too inconsistent.

    So where's the parity?

Think of the past eight Super Bowl winners -- Colts, Patriots (three-time cheaters, um, I mean winners), Steelers, the Tampa Bay Bucs, the Baltimore Ravens and the St. Louis Rams. Tampa Bay and Baltimore had exceptional defenses and marginal quarterbacks, although Brad Johnson was probably considered above average. Each of those other teams had great quarterback play at some point during the season. Yes, Roethlisberger struggled in the Super Bowl, but he played real well in the playoffs and during most of the regular season. And Kurt Warner was the MVP of the 1999-2000 season when the Rams won it.

So I don't want to sound like I'm beating a dead horse, but the bottom line is if you have a great quarterback, you're gonna win 80-90 percent of the time. And most of the NFL doesn't have even a consistent effort on a weekly basis from their quarterback. Even the dog killer (Vick) wasn't consistent.

So the parity is gone because of the lack of consistent quarterbacks. And the cream usually rises around Thanksgiving, when the top quarterbacks reach their peak and get ready for the playoffs.

So, barring injury, expect New England, Indy, Cincy and San Diego to rule the AFC. In the NFC, well ... see all of the above about inconsistent QB play. If McNabb truly is healthy, then Philly should rise above the rest in late November/December.

So, that's why I agree. I find the NFL somewhat boring and predictable and if I don't see any game, it's no big deal. But I will watch games like Pittsburgh vs. Cincinnati, New England vs. Indy and tonight's New England vs. San Diego game.

Its not the commercials that make it boring for me. Its the fact that all the NFL teams sort of look the same. The run the same types of defense and offense, for the most part. I know, I know they arent exactly the same but they for sure arent as varied what you find at the college level.

Another thing that turns me off is that there isnt any team loyalty on the part of the players anymore. Its hard to have a favorite team when the players change so much. I mean I used to be a big Dallas fan, now I only occasionally watch them at all. How in the world can I root for a player like TO who used to player for the 49ers? How can I be happy when players go from the eagles/redskins/49ers to Dallas or vice versa? I mean it makes me sick.

Jerry Jones makes me sick too. I cant stand that idiot.

The NFL is just so vanilla that it has lost my interest. The players are just a bunch of whiney millionares who need a dose of reality.

College is much more interesting to me.

If you don't like football because there are more commercials, you must not like anything on TV. Free television has more commercials now than ever. So whether its The View or the NFL there are more commercials. If you don't like that get TIVO and start the games about an hour after the official start time. You can watch them straight through with now commercials.

The game of football is more exciting to me now than its ever been.

eh.. your opinion. As you get older the tendancy is to find the game less exciting. You dont care as much wether you team wins or loses. But I still love football and enjoying goin to the games... or just relaxing... but yeah i have to agree with you that games can get boring and when nothing is happening and its a commercial break every snap i too scan the tube

No. With fantasy football the NFL is even more exciting.

Maybe your favorite team or division has just gotten dull to you.

I loved it when the games were on Sunday at noon, just the way God and George Halas wanted it. I'm a Bear fan and their starting times are all over the place- 3:15,7:15,Sunday night,Monday night, Thursday night. Maybe I'm just old school, but I don't like it at all. Thanks for allowing me to vent.
