Or are you just voting for the lesser of two evils?

2 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoHave Americans abandoned the principles of liberty?
Both of America's political parties used to advocate personal liberty, yet today neither one does. They both support draconian limits on personal liberty as evidenced by the bipartisan support for the Patriot Act, and I'm wondering if it's just the politicians who oppose freedom, or do the American people actually believe that freedom is no longer a good idea?
9 AnswersOther - Politics & Government1 decade agoIs America nearing the end of the Tytler Cycle?
The Tytler Cycle is a theory of democracies formulated by the Scottish historian Alexander Tytler that states:
“A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.
From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.
The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:
From bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependence back into bondage.”

Since Obama was elected the anti-war movement has died down, yet the wars continue unabated. Were people only protesting because Bush was in charge, and now war is OK again?
8 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoIs the media trying to provoke a civil war?
Have you ever noticed that government protesters are always labeled by the media as extremists? Bush protesters were left-wing extremists, Obama protesters are right-wing extremists. If you're against the government in any way, you must be an extremist. One of the defining characteristics of America is that we have very few extremists compared to other countries, yet now the media is labeling all opposition to the government as right wing extremism, or racism. Either they're focusing on very small groups of real extremists, or they're lying. I tend to believe the latter. I sincerely believe Americans on both sides of any argument are still good people, they just disagree. We rant and rave, and at the end of the day we go home peacefully to our homes to be with our families. Is the media purposely trying to rile people up enough to take up arms. It angers me that I'm being called a racist when I disagree with the president. The media called me unpatriotic when I disagreed with Bush. I'm tempted to become an extremist, though I don't know if I'm a left-wing or right wing extremist, I just know I disagree with what the government's been doing during my lifetime.

4 AnswersElections1 decade agoIs John McCain uneducated?
Or is he just stupid? The other night John McCain inferred that America's isolationist policies in the 30s allowed Hitler to gain power. Are your gramma & grampa really responsible for the holocaust, or did he make that up? What are your thoughts?

Do any of you who support other candidates find this to be true of negative opinions written about your guy (or gal)?

13 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoHey libs, why did you let me down?
You finally had a chance. We finally had a wannabe conservative in charge that made it obvious that the whole system was flawed, and instead of attacking the system, you attacked the man. How stupid are you? Do you really think personal attacks can change the system? Now we're going to get a wannabe liberal, and you're going to support them without question. How does that help? The conservatives will attack the wannabe liberal for 8 years and at the end we'll get another wannabe conservative for the next 8 years. When are you going to use your idealism to attack the system that lets these people control our lives? Can't you see that there's a problem with it? Do really think the guy in charge is responsible for the system that put him there?
The same question applies to conservatives. When will you attack the system instead of the man? Do you honestly believe it's that simple?
6 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoHas the NFL gotten boring for you over the years?
Or is it just me? I used to love waking up on Sunday mornings for football, but it's just not exciting to me anymore. Somehow they've managed to make the games shorter, but miraculously there are more commercials. If I try to watch a game, I usually end up changing the channel after the 2nd or 3rd commercial break and looking for a movie. When the movie goes to commercial I check back with the game only to find... another commercial!!! Does this get on anyone else's nerves?
