IP Configuration 192.168.1.101 in use by 00:14:bf:47:67:f2, DHCP Server 192.168.1.1?

I am getting this error message when I try to connect to the Internet using the wireless connection provided by my landlord. It used to work just fine, then a few days ago the wireless wasn't working at all, he fixed it, and now his kids' and wife's computers can all use the wireless, but mine apparently can't. I've investigated pretty thoroughly in all the network settings, and everything else that looked likely.

I can use a different wireless network by going outside and sitting on the trunk of my car. That's what I'm doing now, but my fingers are getting cold. I just made my computer get a new IP address, but haven't tried with it on the landlord network yet. However, I'm not too hopeful. But we'll see. Any advice? Experience? Why is this happening, and what exactly is it?

It's definitely an IP address conflict. Make sure your wireless adapter is configured to obtain an IP address automatically, and the DHCP server should deal you one that's not in use. Use the Network Connections GUI to repair your address because it does more than just release and renew the address.

It sounds as if there is a duplicate IP address. Try going to start>run> cmd.exe and type ipconfig/release then ipconfig/renew. this will renew your DHCP lease. If this doesn't work, check the ARP table to see which MAC address might be the conflicting one. ( you can search for the 2 parts of the MAC - organizational and/or the unique identifer) after you obtain the one causing the conflict and this might help you track down the machine that is advertising the same IP address.
