Windows Vista vs. Windows XP?

Hello I am confused!!! I currently have windows xp and I'm thinking about getting a new computer but all the new computers have windows vista on them. Now I haven't heard anything good about vista only that it is not worth getting. Is it REALLY that bad? Please let me know if it IS worth getting or not! I'm soooo confused! Thank you :)

I currently use Vista, and it's great. The menus and icons are a little hard to find, but a couple of days it will all be easy to navigate around...I did built my own PC and installed Vista on it...I am not sure about a new PC that is pre-installed with Vista, how it fast it will run and stuff like that.

I was hesitant about Vista but now I tried it, no way I am looking back to XP (XP was great also, but Vista is much more cooler)

Building your own PC is the way to go...

    my gear

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Processor

    Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit

    G.SKILL 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

    GeForce 8800GTS 320MB 320-bit GDDR3 Video Card

NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard

Samsung Spinpoint T Series 500 gig HD

    and (2) Lite-On DVD-RW with litescribe

all hooked up to my Westinghouse 37" LCD tv

I use vista and there is really no problems as long as you update windows currently and have good antivirus spyware ---- > as with the rest of windows. The ONLY problem ppl have with vista is that its not backwards compatible with your older software/hardware so unless its a really big product or is pretty new youre probably gonna need to upgrade your stuff. Also when it comes to vista and XP if you try to buy a computer with XP youre going to be paying more than you should for a computer with crappy specs when compared to vista. If youre buying a new computer go with vista because its the future and XP is going to be supported less and less vs vista which is getting a Service Pack in early 2008

As long as you get a new Vista compatible computer with lots of ram you'll be fine. XP also had issues when it first came out and people whined about XP wanting their ME back. You should upgrade to 2GB of ram. Make sure you get the Premium version. The home basic doesn't have Aero which is really nice eye candy. I have 64bit Ultimate and i like it a lot. Unlike some others, I did my homework and knew I'd have to get a new TV tuner because the one I had didn't have Vista drivers. I made sure my all-in-one had vista drivers. I added ram. Biggest problem with Vista are the people who are trying to put it in that don't do their homework first, dont have the proper Vista compatible hardware or the talent to put a new OS in and tweak it properly. XP is yesterday's news.

Look, to be honest people have been really against vista (well, mainly nothing wrong with it.) When i got my new laptop people were saying how they brought their computers back to the store because "vista made it break" lol

Take it from me (the average computer user) vista is fine, I have had no real problems (exept that I think more programs come up with "not responding" more than XP)

    Overall answer to your question:

If your going to buy a new comp or laptop then yes get a vista, getting an XP would be stupid, if your just going to upgrade (keep your XP and buy a vista seperatly) dont, its not worth it.

You really need to purchase a clean copy of XP - sounds like the home edition would do quite well for you, but notebooks are tricky. Some of them have proprietary hardware and the windows that comes on them has been customized to function properly. From the questions you're asking, I get the feeling that a clean install on a note book, may be a project that you aren't ready for. That's not an insult. If I was in your situation, I'd seek help from a competent shop to do that. You really don't want to be playing with pirated software OR mess up your laptop!

Vista by itself isn't bad, but some applications that work fine in XP might not work in Vista. Fortunately, Vista comes with facilities to help you set up multiple partitions on your hard drive, so you can boot into XP or Vista. Did an XP disc come with your current machine?

No, i have both Windows Vista and XP computers. Vista is better. Those people out there are just used to XP and not Vista. It is much user-friendly than XP. Besides, it doesn't matter anymore, if you get a new computer, it comes with Vista no matter what. I don't think they even sell XP anymore.

People say that it has bugs, but that is just a few people say that for fun and now everyone believes it. I have had it since Febuary or March. And i have had no trouble at all.

And for those people out there that say Vista is no good and has bugs. SUCK IT UP!!! It hardly has any bugs and it runs faster, and more user-friendly than XP. Just GROW-UP! Just get over it. Oh and guess what!! Soon they will start stopping support for XP. So if your computer F's up, then you are f'd. Just like Windows ME!

I hear complaints about Vista all the time, especially from people who don't even have it. I bought a laptop back in Jan and with Vista. The laptop came with a printer but the installation cd was not compatible with Vista, I had to go online an download it. Thats my only issue...not much right? Given time most things will be Vista compatible. I find it to be even more user friendly then XP.

Yea my friend got a new computer which has Vista and I didnt particularly care too much for it. One alot of software and programs are not compatible with Vista yet so they dont even run. And its suppose to be easier but I found that Vista is complicated. But if you're getting a new computer I dont think you have a choice, for they all now come with it.

Right now Vista is not the way to go stay with XP Pro, Vista is very new and has a lot of bugs people have been having problems with it all over, I don't doubt that Vista will be better than XP, but in time when they release updates and a service pack to fix various problems.
