What is the best way to console an aquaintance who just called off her wedding?
We are not close, but I heard about it and will see her this weekend. The fiance was a looser, so it was a good call. But she is in her 30s and is feeling that the noose is tightening. Just how do people deal with situations like this?

If she isn't a close friend don't say anything unless she brings it up, then just say, sorry to hear it.

Offer her your thoughts- I am sorry this happened to you. Ask how she's doing and let her know that she has friends and family that care about her. Things will get better- maybe not right away, but in time they will.
If she feels comfortable with you or maybe with others, suggesting some counseling may help as well. But, I think that type of advice is better coming from close friends and family.

since you aren't close, but you want to acknowledge her distress, something like "I'm sorry to hear your news Annie, if you need anything please let me know." Short and simple, and even if she never needs anything, just knowing people will help might be reassuring.

i just laugh at the situation and tell her how lucky she is that she's single for the next hot guy.
rather be single then with a loser.
