Soundtrack: What Movie is this from?
Hello everybody,
http://www.myvideo.de/watch/1939494
I know I've heard this instrumental before, but I just can't remember where - and it's driving me nuts... :o))
Anyone out there who knows?
Thanks a lot in advance! :o)
Thanks for your quick replies. :o)
The site the video is on doesn't give any information - and the guy who posted it never replied for some reason... *grumble*
First, I thought it might be from "Basic Instinct", but a friend of mine who has the soundtrack at home said it wasn't.
Then, I was wondering whether it was taken from movies such as "Unfaithful", "House on Haunted Hill", etc. as it would match the atmosphere of those movies. But none of them go with the scenes that can be heard in the background.
Apart from the ocean and seagull sounds I keep hearing a voice that sounds like a loudspeaker announcement on a train station or airport, too... - weird.
Oh, and in case you're interested:
The video shows images of a former sanatorium near Berlin, Germany that was closed in the 1990s.
I went there the other day, and if you think this music is haunting, you need to have a look at the hospital the way it looks today:
MystMoonstruck, if you want, copy&paste the email message (or send it to me via this site).
I'm German, so we should be able to figure out whether it says anything that helps us answer this question. :o)

I don't know what it is either, but it does sound like part of a soundtrack. It could be John Williams or John Barry. I hear the sound of waves at one point, very faint.
I have to admit that I've never seen Schindler's List, so I don't know the music from it. I'm not sure that they would use music from that film for this subject.
I just listened to some samples of SL and don't think that it was used.
I want to know the answer, too, because the music is absolutely haunting. I would be surprised if I heard it before and didn't remember it. Thank you for alerting me to the music. Now, we both want to know the source! It's too bad I can't translate the page.
EDIT: The next person brought up a film that Miklos Rozsa scored. I just checked a listing of films he wrote for, and "Fedora" is on that list, a film that deals with a Garboesque actress. I think this could be it! Fedora is struck and killed by a train. In the music sample, you can very faintly hear announcements being made, just as they might be at a train station. Also, the film flashes back to when Fedora is living on Corfu, which might explain the sound of waves. Also, West Germany is listed as one of the places where the movie was filmed.
Has the mystery been solved? Is it part of Miklos Rozsa's score for "Fedora" (1978)?
I have to admit that, after I had listened to it four times, it began stirring memories. I would have seen this film in 1979/80 on HBO.
ARRGH! I checked ebay, which does have a copy of the soundtrack on vinyl~for $199! It's being bid on, meaning it likely will soar since it turns out that this was a limited pressing. Maybe I can find a copy of the film to see if the music matches.
BTW: I sent an email and received one back~in German! I keep trying to get bits and pieces translated but have had no luck figuring out if "what we have here is a failure to communicate," as Strother Martin says in "Cold Hand Luke".

I thought it might be "Love Theme from The Eye of The Needle", movie. I heard the water and some gulls( movie was set on an island)..and played an excerpt on iTunes. But I'm not sure. It's haunting, as you say. I will keep thinking and looking!
