What would be your reaction if you were in an aircraft about to crash?
Would you still have hopes to survive? Some people do survive plane crashes. And do you believe where you sit in the aircraft would make a difference?

The debate about where you're sitting is best left to your own searches at www. ntsb.org.
Knowing I was going to crash, given time, I'd find a rear facing seat, if available to get in. If not available, I'd cover my head with whatever I could find and get into the crash position.
Maybe say a prayer to any god that's listening and look for the closest emergency exit and make a plan to get to it post impact. There's not much else I can think of that you could do.
If the pilot's warned you that they're going to have to crash the airplane, or you've seen signs that it's going to crash, you're along for the ride at that point and there's very damned little you can do beyond follow what you're supposed to be briefed on and wait to see which side of the statistics column you're going to wind up on.

Hope for the best. It is said "mankind survives on hope". Chances of survival will depend on the magnitude of the crash and how it impacts the ground. Many people have survived crashes, some very miraculously. History has shown that people survived who were sitting towards the tail section. but I would give an even chance to all the others as well.

I think where your sitting does effect you. You would have a little longer before you die. Planes that hit the ground hard, usually has no survivors at all. The only chance of surviving is trying to slow down the plane and try to land on a field of some sort, or try to get to the closest runway. I would have some hopes that this is a nightmare, and I would wake up any second :)

I'd go into the tail and have a seat in the bathroom. The tail often breaks off and people in the rear of the plane seem to survive in crashes more than other parts of the aircraft.

I would be thinking "Finally, a piece of good luck in my life."
No, I would not have hopes of surviving. No, I do not believe either that where you sit on a plane can affect the outcome if you crash, that is just based on luck, nothing more.

To terrifying to contemplate.I do think where you sit may have a bearing on survival chances.I think from memory there have been people who survive that were sitting at the back of the aircraft.

It all depends,, if the plane is in a dive at about cruising speed, or anything more than 150 MPH. Survivability is inevitable, so I would pray say my last words, and scream bring it on, because at that point I would have nothing to gain or lose.

hi
when passenger of a helicopter I personally do prefer not to sit near to the line in the cargo bay, which shows the axis of main rotor. this line is direct under the reduction gearbox for the main rotor and that is really bulky. when travelling with airliner, I dont care, it does not really matter where you sit.
I think due to the operational altitudes of helicopters I travel with, I would jsut have time to say "SH*T"

My reaction would be to pull firmly on the mask hanging in front of me, place the strap behind my head....and breath normally. Because I always breath normally when I'm in a plane plummeting towards the earth about to blow up. I also SHlT normally....right in my pants!

I would attempt to say a quick prayer and then try to jump right before the plane hits the ground.
