Bank of America refund for fraudulent charges?

My joint checking account with my husband is being drained by someone who got my husband's debit card #. We still have both of our cards, so we think the criminal got our info from an online site that we purchased from. We already called the fraud alert hotline for the bank and got a police report. Has anyone dealt with Bank of America on this same issue? How long will it take BOA to credit our account. We've lost nearly $1000 in the last 2 days , and I just discovered it tonight when I checked my online banking. If anyone has any info on this or had a similar experience can you please fill me in on the details. I'm so worried they won't credit us the money fast enough.

You are not liable for the charges and showld get your money back very quickly. From the Bank of America website:

    Total Security Protection®

Get greater defense against theft, loss, or unauthorized use of your consumer cards. Total Security Protection is free and automatically available for all Bank of America consumer credit cards and check cards.

    Secure features

Zero Liability. If your card is lost or stolen, Bank of America reimburses you for any unauthorized card transactions up to the amount of the loss, when reported within 60 days from statement date.

Guaranteed credit. Your account will be credited by the end of the next business day for unauthorized transactions if your card is lost or stolen.

You will have to fill out a form and mail or fax it back. Otherwise they will reverse the credit they gave you. Good luck!

Don't know how long it will take BoA to resolve this issue, but I suggest you get rid of the debit cards.

This is one of the main problems with debit cards.

Since they are tied directly to your checking account, this is what happens when someone gets your number.

    Use a credit card instead.

Get a no annual fee credit card and use it like you would the debit card. Just make sure you only charge what you can afford to pay off when you receive the bill.

Enter the charge in your checking register just as you would when using the debit card or writing a check.

Pay it in full when the bill arrives.

You could even find a good cash back credit card and actually make money using them.

Had this happened with a credit card, you are only liable for the first $50, and you could dispute the rest of the charges and not be out any money.
