How do I get rid of an infection in my piercing?

I've had my ears pierced since I was 2 years old and have never had a problem w/ infections in those piercings (I am 30 years old).

I recently had a baby, so fast is the best for me & I left the same earrings in for a week or 2. My ears started to bother me this morning so I took them out & they were covered in black gunk and my eas were red! YUCK!

I have never had this happen before, not sure how best to get rid of the infection... What exactly did I do wrong. I've left earrings in for longer before w/out any problems.

I am thinking that you have metal allergies. Have you tried putting in pure silver or gold earings and still have this problem? You can also try buying some bioplast earings, or plastic earings, to stay away from metal. Bioplast and plastic are known to be less prone to cause infection, and keep you piercing cleaner. Only use the rubbing alcohol on it until the infection is gone. You can also go to www.painfulpleasures.com and buy H2Ocean, it is a Sea-salt spray with "lysosyme" that helps with circulation of the piercing. :) Hope this helps.

Make sure that you use an disinfectent, any thing that you would use to cleanse a cut. Clean them with that regularly and clean all of your earings. Stay away from big earings that your baby can easily grab, that would be very painful. Use studs and leave them in all day, only taking them out so cleanse because when your ear is infected it closes up very easily.

Hmm, that's really weird. Usually you get infections within a year after you get your ears pierced. Put rubbing alcohol on them, and go to the place where you got your ears pierced. Ask them what's wrong. If you got them done at Claire's or some place that isn't 100% sure what they are doing, ask your doctor instead. They will probably have cream for you to put on.

Your body has changed in more ways than one. First off, take all of your earrings and soak them in alcohol for about a 1/2 hour making sure you take the backs off of those with backs....If your body did change you may now be sensitive to the nickle or copper used in some 'Sterling Silvers'. you may not want to wear them or put them on another wire or something as you did not say what was in your ears while this happened to you....gold or silver or not so good ones. For right now if you can put in a good pair of cleaned, 14k gold earrings as to not let the holes close on you, if it is not too painful to get them in....every time you think about it put on a anti-biotic ointment and wipe your lobe with alcohol, both sides. I can almost bet it was a silver that did this to you. This happened to me almost overnight with silver.
