What is involved with shipping a dog?

Long story short, I need to get a young dog (1 year old lab) from Eastern Pennsylvania to Midwest Ohio and have no clue how to go about it. HELP!!!

How much does it cost?

What do I do?

Who do I contact?

Any info is appreciated.

Alaska and Continental are the two best airlines to fly a dog (no weather restrictions) , Delta comes in next. You have to make sure the dog is current on all vaccines, take him to the vet for a health certificate prior to travel. Book your flight, get an appropriate crate and you are all set. The price is by weight and crate size, rough guess about $400.

You can check out the airlines web page for more detailed info.

Call the airline or check their website. Most airlines have details regarding shipping dogs and other pets. One thing to keep in mind. Smaller airports can not handle very large crates. I had this problem when shipping a GSD. Another main issues are temperature, if it is too hot or too cold, they won't ship.

Call the airport, and tell them what you want to do, and they'll fill you in..
