I want to build my own speaker box rather, what's the best wood to use?
I'd rather build my own box, so i get exactly what i want rather than buying one, settling for whatever i find, and getting over-charged.

Medium Density Fiberboard or MDF for short is a good material to use for sub enclosures and is pretty much the standard building material in car audio. usually for 8s, 10s, 12s...MDF is more than sufficient. If you can get your hands on High Density Fiberboard or HDF that would obviously be better but it's more expensive than MDF and a little harder to find at Home Depot or Lowe's. if you are just running a couple hundred watts on a pair of cheap 10s or 12s use MDF.

MDF medium density fiber board. A good 3/4" usually holds up the best. It is pretty easy to work with. Rockford Fosgate, Orion, and Kenwood actually build their boxes out of the same stuff. Most decent boxes are built the same way. just make sure you have the correct air space in side. if you don't have the proper air space it causes your system to sound distorted and awful. GOOD LUCK.

MDF is the best wood for it. Medium Density Fiberboard... Depends on how much power your running to decide thickness.. 3/4 should be more than plenty unless u got big stereo

Truth is, I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars.

MDF is okay but the "best" is 1" HDF (High Density Fiberboard). JL Audio recommends 1" for all their W7 woofers.

i have been told that particle board is the best to use because it is more dense and therefore will better contain the sound waves than other stuff although im not sure about the price
