flat iron first..that will help but dont flat iron straight down..i bring my hair out...it doesnt stay but helps with the messy look. then put a little of the product in you hair and just kind of work it in more at the ends and style how you want it...pull it out, mess it around...and it will always be pliable so dont use a lot.

Oh, do be careful with this stuff. If you put too much in one place, it will be globby. Better to use too little than too much. You can always go back to repeat.
I take a little bit and rub it between my thumb, index and middle finger. Apply to just a couple of sections of hair in the direction you want. Keep doing this until all the hair you want spiked is finished.
